Will Amazon verify SSN by using IRS?

I keep reading people posting "the ssn you give amazon must match what the irs has on file". Are you saying even the sellers who don't meet the IRS requirement of $20,000 AND 200 sales will have their info sent to the IRS for verification? Or are you saying Amazon will verify it themselves without sending info to IRS?

Seems like amazon simply wants to make sure u are who u say u are and not someone else.
