Library

Howdy folks, I have a quick question about using the library computers for amazon. I have brand new info that I have yet to use on amazon. All I am missing is a new router and a new computer. Unfortunately, both of those are proving problematic for me. There is a very small library near where I live that literally has only 5 computers. It's very low volume. I've obviously never used them, so they're safe from me.

My question is, would it be alright to start up from these computers? I don't actually need to access amazon very often, so only using the library doesn't bother me. The only thing I can think of is getting linked to someone else's banned account. I know they look at more than just the IP, though, because my blacklisted info was used at my college before I got banned. I then got on with all new info (even a new laptop) but was banned again due to using it at school. Tons of people there use amazon with no problem at all. This leads me to believe that even in the unlikely even of someone else with banned info using those library PCs, I would still be fine.

I realize there are a couple threads about this, but they seem to be for ebay, polarizing, or old. Thanks in advance!

Yes

Using a Library computer is fine ... I do it ALL the time

Terrible advice, plus this topic has been covered millions of times already.

Others can easily access their suspended account in these computer/IP too, and these computer may not even remove cookies automatically causing you to get linked. It's highly discouraged.

Agree with BiN4ry, This topic has been discussed a ton and bboard that was not good advice.

I get the concern. Are there really that many people with suspended amazon accounts, though? I was figuring since it's a relatively small area, and a fairly small library, that the odds of that would be pretty bad.

I also was leaning towards this because it mentions the library as a good option in the amazon stealth guide.

If you care about your accounts, then don't risk it.

Zaku77 07-27-2012 12:57 AM

Fair enough. I have a family member or two that I should be able to use. I guess I will just go that route.

AmazonStealth 07-27-2012 12:59 AM

Worst advice you could possibly give. If anyone has used that computer is gets suspended anywhere from a day from now to years from now, your account will go down, due to it being linked. Any possible way that a suspended account is linked to a solid account in good standing, they will all go down. You are going to want one computer/account and you want to have your own ip address that no one else can access but you.

Or you can read amazon ghost and understand why you don't need to do all that.

This thread is going to cause a lot of problems with the mixed advice.

If I gave OP bad advice it wasn't intentional ... where I'm from (Los Angeles) the LAPL libraries have always been a great place to run my Amazon business

I've never ever had a problem using library computers so I speak from my experience ...

AmazonStealth 07-27-2012 12:59 PM

What you THINK and what you KNOW AS FACT is entirely different.

Dude.... seriously? i mean.... seriously?

No... it's not a great place to run a business. Maybe it's a good place to run a "business".

Take control, put the methods into your hands.

I never understood why people would risk their income/job, by placing it in the hand of other people..... i.e. drop shipping, using public computers, using parents/gfs information, etc.

library? OR ANY OPEN WIFI OTHER THAN YOURS IS NOT GOOD. I used a cafe many years ago and logged into several accounts. lost 3 instantly. At that point I did not know anything how things worked. Wifi network ip etc. So I know now never ever trust that idea..

Zaku77 07-27-2012 03:32 PM

We have a router/modem split, and I can't afford to get a new computer, so I was just going for something that's free. I'm just going to have to make do with my grandma's computer. It's not so bad, though. It'll be nice to see her a little more... haha

(Oh and Binary, I have amazon ghost. It mentions using a library. That's what gave me the idea in the first place.)

Keyword: Los Angeles, LA is a huge city, I'm in LA too but I still would not advice the OP to use library.

The OP might want to look into Virtual Machine for his needs, or other methods.

buy another hard drive boot from new drive and use dialup done new account up in less than 10 minutes...

Zaku77 07-27-2012 07:19 PM

I have an external drive that I just use for storage. Would it actually be possible to use that? I don't actually know how to boot from it, but I'm sure I could figure it out. Would that actually bypass all my problems? I guess I would just worry that it would still be tainted by being attached to my tainted computer. If it boots from a different drive, does that mean that it wouldn't access my actual hard drive at all? I suppose the dial up would also bypass the router issue. If this would actually work, that would be awesome!

Edit: On second thought, I think a virtual machine would be easier. If I do a virtual machine on my tainted laptop, that is fine, right? I'm not familiar with them, so I just want to make sure. Would I still need to change my laptop's MAC address, and would it be wise to make sure that I have wifi turned off (because that is a tainted router and network card). If I could do one of those coupled with dial up, I would be set.

Ditto! You should be ok.

Mr. Invisible 07-31-2012 12:18 AM

vmware
bootable HD with seperate OS
USB stick with lynx OS

Using the library, It could work & you could be instantly toast. Why take the risk?

Me personally, I know way to many ways to gather info on unsuspecting users logging into accounts on open networks... stay away!

BigCJ 07-31-2012 01:53 AM

Think of it like this and call it a WHY-brary
as in why would you waste your time/bank account/phone number etc on a public computer?

You should NOT use a public place for this. MANY people are on that SAME IP daily. You don't know what they are doing and what/if they are selling.
And instead of amazon trying to sort the matter out, you'll just get deleted or banned.

Amazon is looking for BUSINESSES, not small sellers anymore.

You need to invest in a static IP, a land-line and a few other things to be able to sell safely

as for Library? DON'T DO IT!
