VMware with Internal Modem not working?

Does VMware support internal (pcmcia) modems?

I can't get VMware to work with my internal modem for dial up.

Do I need to get an external USB dial up modem for VMware to recongise it?

(VMware recognises other USB devices)

Any help would be great.
