SS# or EIN?

My main account is solid. Its a legitimate businesses, I have my EIN/ report taxes, and do it by the book.

Problem is, I have another account that is personal. I sell odds and ends of non business items. This account is under the SEPT 30 deadlines because I have given them any SS or EIN.

The account is a stealth account that I run on a separate computer with a separate router. This account wont meet the 20K/200, but I need to give them something.

Should I just use my SS number because it has not been used yet and wont get sent in to the IRS anyway? Or should I create another business to get an EIN.

make sure to create a different business "ENTITY" to obtain a new EIN.

if you haven't used your SS# yet then it is free to use. only sign up for an EIN if it has been previously used or you would like to setup an actual business

Oh common Jim, give me a break. I've completed two days of research and gave the man the advice that I learned. And, that is the advice that you just gave me in the private message...

slim jim 09-03-2012 02:19 PM

two different situations = two different answers

The only thing I am worried about using my SS number is

#1 - my real name matches up with that of a previously banned account
#2 - I dont want them finding out I have 2 accounts, can they match the EIN account with my SS number on another and discover they are both me?

slim jim 09-03-2012 05:46 PM

They can't trace your ss# from your ein but if you want to be proper I would start with a new corporation

If that other account will not meeting 20K and 200 Transaction, just get the Tax ID from IRS as Sole Proprietor and provide them that number for second account.

And doing it this way they will not be able to see the name of the owner?

S-corps use the owners SS# not an EIN. Your advice makes no sense.
