Questions about amazon UK & info they can get

I live in the UK, can amazon get my bank routing number and what info will it tell them.

The County (yes i said county not country) or Town, or can they get postcode from it.

I know that amazon can not get my address from my bank. Am not sure if they can get my name or not though, probably not

Callidus 09-10-2012 11:18 AM

Sounds like you are wanting to sell phakes?

sax4 09-10-2012 11:26 AM

The town I suppose they can get from your sort code, unless you have a Halifax account which I believe(correct me if I'm wrong) all accounts are 110001.

But yes sounds like you are up to no good.

Maybe he is just genuinely concerned if he will truly stay "under the radar" with stealth and not be linked back to a suspended account. That was my first thought when I read the thread title and opening post.

So the sort code says the town?

Seems unlikely. I checked the wikipedia page on sort codes:

Sort code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

the first 4 numbers signify the bank, the last 2 can not possibly signify the town, as they are more than 99 towns in the UK. maybe it signifies the county?

The sort code ID's the branch location.

However, I you can open bank accounts at any branch I like, so doesn't really matter.

so can they use the sort code to identify me.

e.g if i give 1 sort code from halifax bank

and then setup another account and give a sort code from Nat West.

Can they use the sort codes to link my account?

and i actually dont remember whether amazon asked for sort code when making deposits for seller account

meVebay 09-10-2012 05:19 PM

They can't ID you from a sort code no.

If your asking if they could link accounts, potentially.

Same sort code. Manual review. Same items. Other similarities.

Not enough on it's own.

But if your mega paranoid, use different banks. Open accounts in Wales, Scotland etc.

Spread them about.

Re-read what you were told in this post.....

Accounts that get manual reviews could get detected if other variables apply.

Does the account name need to match with bank account

I have 2 questions

1) Can amazon check the name on my bank account

2) Does the name on the bank account need to match with the account name/bank account holder name i have put on the seller account?

Ebayorbust 09-11-2012 09:39 AM

1) No

2) No

Few more questions please
1) I have heard some people say money wont go through if they dont match? So was that false?

2) Does this mean i can put a bank account number and sort code from say London, when i live in liverpool? And money will still go through even with ⊗⊗⊗⊗ name, nothing bad will happen?

3) Because if the sort code is from London branch of bank and i live in liverpool, shouldnt that get my account suspended on amazon?

rsot 09-11-2012 10:21 AM

1) Most banks will have no problems - some do - to find out which ones, search the forum.
2) Yes - nothing bad will happen...depends on what you do other than the bank.

3) No - you need to understand more about banks roberto.

Can you please kindly explain your answer to number 3, cant they use my sort code to know that I dont live in the town i say i do because of my sort code?

and use that to suspend my account

Why would they suspend your account?

Amazon will know that your bank branch is not located near your Amazon registered address but it would not trigger your suspension.

Well i have heard in USA out of state people are banned, if they dont live in the state that the ip address says they live in, they get banned.

If they follow that kind of idea with ip addresses, surely they must also follow that kind of idea with sort codes. If not, why not, is it because its not accurate enough?

GreenBean 09-11-2012 05:53 PM

So how come you asked about the sort code in one thread AND now ask virtually the same here?
Merged everything.

Hearing info on a matter is often wrong because ALL the facts have not been presented. You should not need to be worried about a lot of what are asking here.

You have to look at the sensibility of what you are asking. Your premises are not sensible at this point.

What risk should there be to an amazon account of a seller who opened a bank account in London ( for example) and now lives in another city?

Explain to me why you personally think that is a risk?

My UK bank accounts are from branches in 3 different cities.
They are all on accounts located elsewhere. Nothing has happened.
:juggle:

What's your basic fear that you are pursuing this line of thought?

i just want to set up backup account in case mines banned for any reason what so ever.

and i have a belief that no matter how honest or good you are, you are bound to be banned one day from amazon and ebay.

so i want backups.

thanks for clarifying

sax4 09-11-2012 08:21 PM

Imagine you were Amz and you suspected a linked account, you would study all the evidence available.
