when first creating the account

Well on the seller registration page it says: "we do not actually make the charge; we just ask if this amounts exists in the account"

They usually charge me a dollar..

Ive done it 7 times so far with different gift cards they took 1$ every time but they do say that they may take up to 4.:typing:

is it to verify the address?

or is there no way for amazon to verify address because they can not know address on debit card/gift card?

They do charge you $1 authorization and puts it back eventually.

It`s the test authorization - to make sure your card isnt some bogus.

Which means they go to the card and 'take' an amount to make sure there is actually money on the card.....

They don't actually take the money. Lets get that clear.

It's merely a check to make sure the card is active. It also checks (within the quite small constraints of the AVS system) that the address given to Amazon matches the details on the card.

There are many reports on the forum, that coming upto disbursement time, and when in review, people have had upto 10$ put on authorisation.

If Amazon's test authorisation fails, they will know why from the declined code they get. Whether it's no funds, AVS not matching up, they'll know.

I'd recommend always having at least £10 on the card used for registration. You never know what may happen.

because someone told me: "They can not see or find out a address from card numbers. you can use any address. "

Authorization only AVS is used by companies and processors to verify recuring memberships. Like Netflix, Amazon, eBay... to verify name, street and zip code or whether is a prepaid card, debit card (checking attached) or ATM card, credit card. They often authorized $1.00 or $0.00 for example. You can always call your bank to have removed or prepaid card issuing bank.

They could capture any amount later if they wish as long as you have funds available. Authorization and capture or post authorization often used by Hotels to authorized an amount and capture it later. As long as you got money on your card, they could withdraw it as simple as that.

What they are doing is simply verifying as has been stated that funds exist on the card. They put it through but leave it in a "pending" status, The never send it through for processing. Technically they do not take the money, however it will effect your "available funds" until the pending staus drops. Most companies do this within 24-48 hrs though technically the have 30 days to do this.

In this situation it is not to validate address etc. Just funds availability.

They do a test charge - to make sure money goes through - don`t actually CHARGE and KEEP.

Keep 0-10 or 0-20 as funds on the cc.

amazon go to the card WHICH HAS TO HAVE FUNDS LOADED on it.

They take funds from the balance to make sure it's a working card.

NO funds, the card fails. Funds there, the card works....

Conclusion: load the card with at least $5 to not fail
