Should I add Amazon to my resume?

This is kind of a weird question to ask on here, but you guys are usually nicer and more helpful than those big time sellers on the Amazon forums. My main Amazon account was never suspended, I still use it to this day. I recently graduated from college though and I am looking for employment in my career field. I put it like this on my resume. Please feel free to add to it!

Self-Employed Online Merchant September 2010 to December 2012
Amazon Merchant Reseller
Moses Lake, WA
• Accomplished by averaging at least $30,000 in sales per a month. Between 150-200 units a month
• E-commerce experience with a selling feedback score of 716. Positive feedback: 99.6%.
• Investigate sources for products, such as wholesalers, liquidators, drop shippers, or pawn shops for new items, or used items.
• Correspond with online customers via electronic mail, telephone, or other electronic messaging to address questions or complaints about products, policies, or shipping methods.
• Determine and set product prices for optimal profits.
• Calculate purchase subtotals, taxes, and shipping costs.

And if you can, show me how you would write this. I don't really know what to add to it besides the four things I have added to it.

Speeder33 12-13-2012 05:05 AM

I put something like that on my resume....my boss seemed to like it, not sure if that was just an unusual case though.

zelpher 12-13-2012 05:13 AM

Yeah, I wouldn't add it if I had any other choice. I haven't had a job since I was 18. >.> My resume would be empty. If they ask I can prove my income through my income taxes.

rsot 12-13-2012 07:17 AM

Depending on where you are applying, sales are always looked at positively. I would keep it. I deal with resumes and some headhunting on the side so I would definitely say to keep it. Some suggestions would be to write details about what software you used and dealing with customers (returns, irate customers, etc)

slim jim 12-13-2012 09:03 AM

You wouldnt put amazon necessarily, you should list the name of ur business just like you would list any of ur employers

rsot 12-13-2012 12:24 PM

Slim is right - keep it high level - internet marketing business.

Gamefreak 12-13-2012 02:28 PM

Right as slim say, If they are interested an ask questions then you tell them the stuff you wrote up there...

If you are banking that kind of money, why you looking to go elsewhere?

I am a sophomore at a University and it is the main thing I have on my resume. It landed me an internship this summer at a pretty big time firm so I think having it on there really helps. It is always the first thing recruiters ask me about so it gives me a chance to get a word in and explain myself.

sacka_man 12-14-2012 08:50 AM

Don't say you sold on Amazon - that sound amateurish, and even if you run your Amazon account like a business your potential employers will not understand that.

Do what slim_jim and rsot said. If it were my own resume, I'd list the "business name" of the Amazon account (even if not an officially registered business) and leave out any mention of Amazon. Use past tense sticking verbs like "marketed", "founded", "organized", "led", "shipped", etc to make your accomplishments seem like you conquered the world. :)

I started putting it on my resume! I agree with not putting "amazaon or ebay" on it though. New employers want to know what you did during a big time frame without a job, so that why I started putting it.

bruceuk 12-14-2012 11:35 AM

Why o why would you want a job if your TO was 30k a month .
Most guys in a job for some time would kill to get out of it and have a little business doing them numbers from home .

Been wondering about this, in process of updating my resume :), been out of work a little.....

So everyone says dont mention amazon and ebay, and focus on the plus parts....What about providing service and getting 100% feedback? Thats a positive right?

most who read that will say 30,000 part seems like bull**

even if its true. because if you making that kind of sales, why are you looking for job?

zelpher 12-18-2012 05:29 PM

Thanks for all of the great advice! I got a phone call to come in for an interview yesterday :), the employer seemed really to be impressed with my home business.

And I am still going to be selling on Amazon. But I didn't go to school for four years to sell stuff on Amazon for the rest of my life. Human Resource is a very good career to get into and the average yearly salary for a Human Resource Manager is $70k. It's pretty hard to make that kind of money from selling stuff online lol. Plus, what happens if god forbids my Amazon account gets suspended some day. I would be screwed, it is always good to have a back up plan.

And 30k in sales might seem like a lot. But you have to understand, almost everything I sell is used electronics/phones. It isn't hard to hit 30 grand when everything you sell goes for $150-$200 on average. I only make 2 to 4 grand profit per a month.

And please quit sending me messages asking where I get my stuff. Do your on research. I will give you one tip though, craigslist.

And roberto, jealous much?
