Cheapest Shipping with Tracking Number

As all of you know Amazon requires that you give them the tracking number for each order. I have some small items I would like to sell and the cheapest I can find to ship them is $1.12 First Class. However, this does not include an option for a tracking number. If I select "Thick envelope over 3/4 inch" First class it gives free tracking but cost $1.69. Does anybody have a cheaper way to ship these small items?

Also, I know that Amazon uses your tracking numbers as part of your selling metrics. Do they really check the tracking numbers for delivery? Has anyone got away with putting the same tracking number for each order or some other bogus information?

thanks guys and gals

1.67 w/ tracking if purchased online (items 13oz or less)

I use Stamps.com account.

So AZ does verify that tracking numbers are valid and shipments received?

mjstallion 02-22-2013 11:19 PM

With really cheap items I used to grab stacks of Delivery Confirmation slips from the post office and input the numbers, without actually using them. I never had a problem doing that but now they don't give them out anymore.

For how many orders did you do this?

Your metrics for shipping never dropped below 100 percent

All they need is a tracking number. They do not verify it as delivered.

Dumb as hell

I remember one time I accidentally clicked on confirm without submitting anything and it released the money. I wonder if you could just use a random number generator to input bogus tracking numbers to save the 57 cents on getting the tracking number. I think I'll open up a stealth account just to try it.

TonyAlmeida 02-23-2013 10:40 PM

Don't do that, spend money to make money.

If you provide phony tracking number the buyer may file the A-Z case and want their money back.

Kelly441 02-23-2013 11:05 PM

I didn't think about that. I was going to do it on very low cost items.

There is proof around that a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ tracking number can get an account axed

amazon uk zapped an account of an associate.

Value of the item was under US$20. Buyer did the dirty on him.

Re: Cheapest Shipping with Tracking Number

1.67 is only for items 3 oz or less. Price goes up every 4th oz I believe

alekov 02-25-2013 08:57 PM

3 oz. is the cheapest usually, so no sense to put 2 oz. or 1 oz. on packages... :)

Are you guys sure that amazon doesn't verify the delivery dates off of the delivery confirmation numbers? Now that they have implemented these new Seller Metrics in place, I believe that's how they track how many point they assign you on different orders - how timely it was shipped, and when it actually arrived. I would be careful using a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ tracking numbers... Maybe it used to be ok, but I don't believe that's the case anymore.

Is it mandatory on all accounts pro and single seller for tracking? I have not been using amazon to sell for a few months. Tired of being kicked down so I stay off the platform for now
