Dial Up : 1 # difference in IP, is this a problem?
 

Greetings All,

I have signed up for dial up service after reading the guide. My question is in regards to the changing IP#.

I have disconnected several times and called back, and the IP # only changes by one number at the end. Is this a problem that they will be able to link the accounts or no?

Is there any known why to get my numbers to change more?

As long as its changed by one number you are good just keep a log of all IPs used so u dont cross accounts with them

That is normal if you are dialing the same access number. Change to a different access number in a different city, the last two octets of the IP address may change.

I use dial-up and the IP varies only by 1-2 digits sometimes...enough to be considered IP-linkfree

Wow, I honestly thought dial up would vary by quite a bit more.. if gotebay is right, then it would make sense to change your dialing connection location pretty often. Otherwise, going with dongle just seems to make more sense since the last 4 digits of the ip are changing (considerations: carrier&city).

In this day and age dongle are pretty cheap and nearly all phones can tether, but dial up still serves its purpose now and again. Personally not a long term solution for me, but it works very well for some people.

this is completely wrong. I really dont understand why people would just take a guess at this and then give it as fact.

There are around 4 billion different Ip addresses you can have. If you log into multiple accounts from an Ip that changes by one number then sooner or later you will get linked.

The numbers after the last dot of the Ip refer to the network.

Say your ip is: 192.168.1.102

Example addresses on the same network: 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.103
Example addresses not on the same network: 192.168.2.1, 192.168.2.103

If only one number changes (im guessing its the number at the end) you are telling amazon that you are running multiple computers off of the same router/ network.

Now in my opinion people take all kinds of over the top precautions when it comes to stealth. But this is something that is very very important.

I guess I don't fully understand either, but why would someone be seen as being on the same network when using dial up? Dial up is going directly through a modem within your computer; no need for routers/ethernet/wifi of any kind. What you said makes sense to me, I just don't understand how it applies in this situation =/

barrycruan was making a point about the IP in general - if the last 3 digits arter the final dot are similar, you can be viewed as being part of a network.

Dial-up wont generate this kind of similarity in general (at least for me, it has not when I dial the same access number a couple of times in a row).
