Returns Over 30 days

I recently got a message from a customer asking to return an item over 30 days. Ofcourse the reasoning is complete BS, but what can you do.

I was wondering what my options were. I know amazon allows 30 day returns.

If I choose not to accept it, can they still open an AZ claim if its over 30 days?

I most likely will accept it regardless and just accept the loss.

let the buyer know that you only have a 30 day warranty ( MUST BE SPECIFIED IN LISTING ) and that the 30 days has passed. If they file a claim with az then you can simply show amazon your 30 day return policy from the listing.

If the listing doesnt specify then you may be in for an a-z claim that you will probably lose.

If the item is cheap i say just accept the return to get a probable angry customer off your back.

And, even MORE realistically, they have up to 180 days to do a chargeback.

Keeping it professional with good customer service is the best way to go here. Unless you don't care about losing the account.

its always a lose lose situation. If they open up an AZ claim, the claim will still count against you even if you win.

I accepted the return, but now the buyer wants "money to fix the item themselves"

I'm getting sick of Amazon and eBay offering no protection to sellers in matter like this.

A lot also depends on what you are selling OP :( yes it sucks - between the 30 day "policy" (which can be abused) and the 180 day chargeback provided by CC companies...it's a very tough selling situation

The good news is, if you have a quality product that is authentic, these situations are rare. Yes, you run across the occasional scam artist and other things can also go wrong, but this should be a tiny percentage of your overall sales.

There is no way to eliminate risk, you can only manage it.

True on authenticity but also would depend on how hot and popular the category is I would add.

That is extortion.

Would negate warranty for many items if they did their own repairs.
