Is it possible to use Gmail as an anonymous remailer?

Is there a way of sending email to a Gmail account (or any other) you own and have it forwarded on to an address that you indicate in the email ? This would be great for responding to AMz customer emails while abroad or using a linked computer as it wouldn't send your IP in the email header.

This is different from the standard Gmail forwarding as the forwarding address is not previously set in the receiving/forwarding Gmail account. You somehow include the forwarding address in the mail you send so that your receiving/forwarding Gmail account knows where to send it once it receives it.

To the techies out there, Would something like this be difficult to implement ?

I must be missing something. Every email I have ever used lets you forward a message after you read it.

UM, I tried a translation.....

Can I put a different email address on an email so a reply will go to that different email and not back to the original.

If right, I wanna prize.

Ok, just had a melitta European roast so
The cobwebs are gone. I think ops is worried about the senders IP address in the email header. This keeps coming up. I thought we established that gmail
Does not put the senders ip in the header.

Senders IP is not shown but e-mail source sure is - unless Tony's idea is implemented or something similar

Seems like it wants an autoforwarder with masking of the e-mail sending field...like let's say you have 5 accounts A B C D E - you set up a forwarder account F then you mail from all the accounts and F sends out the e-mail to the destination of choice (which would be indicated in text or so)

OK let me translate for the OP

He wants to be able to send an email from one of his email accounts, to his own Gmail address.

He then wants Gmail to forward the email to another email address (Amazon Customer) without passing on any of the original sender details.

There is no easy way to do that with to my knowledge. If the OP want like this then he must log-in to that gmail account and set forward mail to the customer's email. there is no point to doing that.

In Gmail, you can set any display name you want to. But everything must go to Amazon message system and the name display on the gmail account doesn't matter anymore.

gmail doesn't show sender IP so you just need to reply to customer by reply to the email.

Re: Is it possible to use Gmail as an anonymous remailer?

OP - What is the reason for wanting to do this? Seems very odd to me

Can you not just log into the gmail account and reply? Seems to be solving an issue that does not exist unless I am missing something

I apologise for going round the houses with my original post - I was half asleep at the time! :s Interesting to see some of the responses though!

From recent posts, I was under the impression that they DO get the IP from Gmail and I was looking for a way to prevent this. From what some of you guys are saying, they cannot, in which case it is not an issue.

So just to get this clear - If you have images / beacons disabled in Gmail and you do not click on any links in the email, Is it safe to reply to your AMz customers and Stellar Centrul support on a PC and IP that has been previously linked ?

Another Question: If I was abroad and I used this method to respond to customer emails, Would AMz only receive the Google server IP and be unaware that I was abroad ??

Great helpful bunch of people here - Thank you :)
