different version of name vs. family members name?
 

I was all set to use the more formal version of the name I had already used with Amazon but then read the guide again and it seemed like it would be better to use a family members name for better safety.

Now I just read another post advising to go the DBA route so please advise.

BTW, I will only be selling top notch products and plan on excellent customer service (learned my lesson!)

Don't use any family name. Get DBA or going Ghost.

Fictitious name or own name variation to start. Keep it simple for now

So just to confirm - when I use a DBA, Amazon will not ask for the owner of said DBA?

Personally I believe the best way to go is to get an LLC and give your company name as your name. It will be much easier to recover money owed if there are any problems and you have to prove who you are. Also, it makes sense for your bank too. If you are getting deposits under a completely different name your bank will want proof of who that person is and that they are giving you permission. If your deposits are in a company name then I think the worst thing they will do is make you open a business account.

By the way, TD bank will let you open a business account with just your EIN letter from the IRS. Which you can get before you even form your LLC

Thanks for the advice Kelly. However, if I name my LLC my own name (which I used obviously on the account that was suspended) wouldn't they link me to banned account the same as if I simply opened a new account with a DIFFERENT VERSION of my own name?

I have to say I am really struggling with this as I would like to have several accounts in order to avoid the "earning more than 20k/year" limit which seems to flag Amazon to review account?

You don't use your name for the LLC, you use like Spacely Sprockets LLC. When registering with Amazon and they ask for name you give Spacely Sprockets LLC, not John Doe or whoever owns the company. Going over $20,000 will not trigger a review. I have accounts that have went over $100,000 this year and still no review.
