IP location at logon?

Is it common for large companies like Amazon to do an IP trace every time you log on? I'm just wondering how much Amazon really uses this when looking for stealth accounts? Many people have said that they have sold the same item on another stealth account using a different city, but from the same IP location.

The reason I asked is because I am driving 30 minutes away to access one of my stealth accounts that sells same item from another stealth account. I do have dialup at home, but was concerned they might use IP location and same item to link accounts.

Am I being too paranoid?
:behindsofa:
When it comes to Amazon Stealth I think it's ok to wear the tin foil hat.

I highly doubt IP geolocation is used. I operate many accounts from various locations but my geolocation stays the same.

It is perfectly fine to be located miles away from the geolocation of where the map thinks you are.

Have you sold same items on multiple accounts?

I vary the products across accounts. Your inventory needs to be separate by account (or not too similar).

Have you done this with same items using FBA or do you only do seller fulfilled?

I do everything seller fulfilled. I'm thinking of trying FBA, but probably will wait on that.

Re: IP location at logon?

I think it is different when we are talking about same items being sold FBA. I used the 10 to 1 rule. However both accounts only had one FBA item and they were the same item. It would be hard to come up with 9 additional items for each account to make it look like someone else.

Re: IP location at logon?

Personally I think that IP location can be used if an account goes under a manual review. If they see same item being sold FBA right after a suspended account sold the same item FBA, they will link accounts and delete. I think that's what happened to one of my accounts.

I have to second what An0nym0u$ says about ip geolocation. Some websites that you use to check your ip location have outdated databases that needs to be updated. Even the main ip providers don't update frequently resulting in ip address geolocation be off. Do a search until you find about 6-7 of them and check your ip across all them. You'll find that they won't all return data to one specific location.

My ip on one site reports that i'm in the correct state and on another site, it reports that i'm located somewhere a thousand miles away...

I guess we just have to roll with it until we find out otherwise.

IP burger reports all the IPs from my house exactly the same, right down to the exact coordinate numbers

Dialup allows you to expand the geolocation I would figure...

No Rsot, we talked about this and I tried it. No matter what number I dialed into, my IP location was exactly the same.

How about a different dial up provider?

Re: IP location at logon?

I don't think it has anything to do with ISP , it has to do with an IP trace. I used Netzero and Juno, same location.

Someone else that has dialup might be able to confirm this

How about a different network card? Or change the mac of your network card. Its been confirmed that dial-up changes your ip everytime you connect.

Oh thats true, geolocation. Do you know which site ebay uses to check the IPs against?

I don't know how much more indirect i can be telling you that you shouldn't worry about this. Lets just say, remember other members are doing it successfully. You have you sort of think about things the same way they do unless your experience tells you differently.

Re: IP location at logon?

I haven't heard from anyone that does it the way I do.

See I sell all FBA, people that have reported success do mostly seller fulfilled.
