Re: "Review of Your Amazon Account"
I was also getting e-mail messages from Amazon asking me to send
personal identification information to the FAX Number 1-2069225821.
After reading messages on this forum I, too, was convinced this was
was a Phish message. I thought it to be strange that Amazon did not
offer any other means of communicating other than sending information
via FAX.
This morning I got another message from Amazon informing me that since
I failed to respond to their earlier requests, my account has now been closed.
I contacted Amazon by phone and after voicing my complaint to the first
customer service rep, she put my call through to another person in retail
services. She told me that the requests for information were in fact legit. The requests have nothing to do with my regular amazon account, but with an Amazon Payment service which I used only one time 5 years ago to sign up with Blue Mountain Greeting Cards. This payment system is similar to PayPal. Because it deals with electronic monetary transactions, Amazon by law is required to obtain this information to confirm identity of the customer.
She referred me to "Know Your Customer" which you can google for more information. So, I am pleased to be able to inform everyone here who has received these strange e-mails from Amazon, that they are in fact legit. She offered no explanation as to why they are using a FAX number for responses
as opposed to USPS. They offer no phone response because "we don't have a phone line set up for this."
