Amazon IRS Wizard
 

In the past I have had no problem putting in my new EIN and it would go through on Amazon's end.

This time I keep getting

"The taxpayer identification information submitted for your seller account does not match IRS records. To prevent disruption to your seller account, please click here to update your information."

Anybody have any insight to this?

All the information is correct, just not sure why I am hitting this bump.

amazon has an option during the interview that says did you receive your TIN within the last 3 weeks or something like that. Perhaps its not fully in the IRS system yet?

Are you 100% certain the name you have associated w/ that EIN is a perfect match in the IRS system?

Even a slight variation would cause it to fail the match. (Example: you called it "John Smith Corporation" when registering with the IRS but entered "John Smith Corp." in Amazon Tax Interview)

Yes it is 100% correct,

As for the IRS system, in the past I have been able to do it the same day. But, that was the only explanation I have.

I received my CP 575 A so it should process fine.

For me it has always taken about 3-4 weeks to get in the system. I give Amazon the EIN the same day I get it from IRS. Within a few days Amazon says it's wrong, I just wait the 30 days they give you and reenter it again

are you able to have more than one EIN as a sole proprietorship under your name? I tried online, it gave me an error, and then i called the IRS and they said your limited to only one under your name...

You can have as many as you want. My office probably has 5-10 for other purposes not related to amazon

When you ask irs for an ein how do you justify asking for another one?

They told me just use the one you have

I just asked the individual at my office who handles this (and is also an attorney). He said anytime we request an EIN, there is a new LLC or S Corp associated with it.

Many individuals like to keep different portions of their business under separate entities, so that is a perfectly legitimate reason to have multiple EIN.
