TeamViewer versus VPS

Hello,

OK... I have to connect to a "USA" Amazon KDP account from a foreign country.

What would be the preferred, less risky option?:

1) A VPS?

2) A dedicated computer with a dedicated IP address, accessed via TeamViewer, set-up in "unattended access"?

I seem to prefer #2 for many reasons.

Thoughts?
Opinions?

Thanks,
Mark

As for #2 you can use it though Windows RDP without even thinking about TV. TV is usually for non-dedicated IP PCs.

As for #1 - there're Windows-based VPSes that can be accessed using RDP as well.

TV can be "abused" and overused some day somehow, and therefore you'll need to Change your TV ID (something that not all members are familiar with how to do that). Happened few times to me in the past, tho.

Personally I would go with TeamViewer. I use it daily.

However a solid VPS works as well.

Agree with aspkin.

Only thing about Teamviewer that worries me is power failure.

If the computer goes off line, circumstances might make it difficult to reset.

VPS works better for me therefore. I can contact tech support for them to sort issues.

Re: TeamViewer versus VPS

With TV you can always take the PC to "Sleep", then to remotely "ping" it (WoL) and turn on it from the Sleep mode in seconds, and continue to work. When you finish, to take it into "Sleep" mode again as well (works both with real IPs and dynamic IPs, mentioned about this feature 1-2 weeks ago in other thread).

But still as you said - you never knows when electricity issues might come. There're alot of "tornadoes" in US :).

Re: TeamViewer versus VPS

if you are using hard drive encryption from boot level, team v will not help you as someone needs to physically sort the encryption before any sort of log on or pc access is available.

I personally use team v and pay some geezer a few quid if pc needs attention... and he gets a good 4 figure few quid monthly for not much help, but if someone helps me when I am down and out, I show my appreciation :) - yes my Italian fren, big shout to u, wherever u are in the world!

I use Teamview on all my accounts. But power failure makes my life miserable sometimes. I have a person who can remotely power the computer on, that helps a lot.

Some computers have a BIOS that can be set to automatically powered-on in case of power failure. If you have access to the computer, you may want to check the BIOS settings.

Pardon my ignorance, but is there a simple way of resetting a dynamic IP while on teamviewer? I know connection is lost...but when reset is done, you gain automatic teamviewer connection?

I use a combination of TeamViewer and Remote IP Switch. I have to reboot both router and IP Switch within a second or 2 or I get in so much trouble.

But when you have a modem/router and you can change mac from there, you are gold. You do not need the IP Switch.
