For new name and EIN, do you just do DBAs?
 

Thinking it's a lot cheaper and faster than setting up an LLC. Just wondering if this is the route most people are taking to get a new name and EIN. And about how much does this cost and is it fairly straight forward to do it on your own without having to pay a service like LegalZoom?

The fee is depend on the state you want to form your LLC

Problems can occur with a Sole Proprietor DBA. It links directly back to your SS number. I am not saying you can not do this, a well respected member here reported doing this for three years with no issues.

Other have reported many differant issues such as 1099k comming to the wrong name, paypal requesting updated info, IRS contacting paypal because name not matched...

If you do it correctly, use a new address, new telephone, new everything with your DBA you should be fine but if a paypal limitation or review happens it goes directly back to you.

Also for tax reasons, typically any schedule C is maxed taxed, but that is for you and your accountant to boil down.

Legal zoom is expensive and does not really do anything for you other than fill out the form for a fee.

yeah don't do legal zoom. Just go to the state website where you live. It is very easy to file for a LLC.
