Does Amazon Check Address?
 

Hi

I read that AVS system returns match / non match code for zip and address and allows merchant to decide whether or not to process order.

I have two questions:

1. Does Amazon require the zip and/or address match when buying something?

2. I read on Wikipedia that the AVS system only checks the number part of an address. For example, if the real address is 999 Aspkin Avenue the AVS system will check only "999". Therefore, if one entered 999 Second Street it would pass verification:

Is this true?

AVS verifies the below information in BLUE.

John Smith
1234 Main Street
Anytown, USA 12345

Amazon MAY require the address to match the billing address and MAYBE the shipping address if the item is expensive enough. To verify a seller account, AVS is required. A VCC, or a gift card you can register is recommended.

So if I understand correctly if even if Amazon verifies address they will only verify the elements in blue? However, if they do not verify address they will not verify even this part?

What would you call "expensive enough" ? More than $300?

I don't know what Amazon's threshold is for requiring verification.

If Amazon uses the AVS system, they only verify the numbers in the address and the ZIP code. If they decide to use something else, then who knows? There are plenty of ways to verify a person's address and many companies are providing solutions to businesses.

My example above was only referring to how the AVS system works in terms of credit cards. I have no idea what other techniques Amazon may use to verify an address.
