I sold an item on Amazon but I shipped it very late. I contacted the buyer and told them what happened and they returned the item for a full refund plus I told them I would throw in an extra $10 to cover the cost of shipping. So I did the full refund plus $10 and the refund stayed on pending for a whole day. When I called Amazon to see what's going on they told me that since he purchased using a visa gift card I could not refund him more than what he paid. The buyer thinks I'm trying to pull a fast one on him and he wants to open a AZ claim. Is this correct that I can't refund extra $10 to the gift card? Because when I asked him the gift card originally had $300. He spent $200 $150 buying from me and $50 somewhere else. So he's claim there's room to refund the extra $10 and I'm lying to him.

why would amazon reps bs u about not being able to refund their customer? Can a buyer open a-z claim after full refund is given?

You cannot refund more than the actual purchase on a gift card, this has do with money laundering laws.
If you have refunded the customer he cannot open an a-z.
This customer I suspect is going to leave negative feedback in any event due to the fact that he is calling you a lier already.
I would send him a polite email explaining you are unable to refund him the extra $10 and leave it at that.
If you get a bad feedback try having it removed.
