"The ability to create a listing for this item is restricted"
 

Everytime I try to list an item, I get this damn message. Very irritating.

This is a LEGIT Amazon account with my own personal information. Even have my SSN attached.

Anyone know a way around this error message?? Thanks.

It means that Amazon does not allow that item to be sold by 3rd party sellers. Or at least they don't allow it to be sold by 3rd party sellers who are not pre-approved by them.

Several categories are restricted. For example, you must be pre-approved to sell Apparel, Jewelry and Watches, DVD's, etc.

Sometimes a specific item cannot be sold, even within an open category. These items are usually ones where Amazon has had a problem with people selling counterfeits.

I don't think that you are getting an error code, I think you are trying to sell something that Amazon has either prohibited 3rd party sellers from selling altogether, or requires pre-approval to sell.

of course, there are also the listings within a semi-restricted category (like software) that will ONLY be approved to the largest corporate sellers. These are usually listings in categories that have had counterfeit problems, and the category manager has hand picked certain SKU's to be even more restricted than usual. Of course, Jeff already said that:

Speaking from experience in one of these categories, expect Amazon to lift the restriction in maybe another decade. In other words, find something else to sell. No matter what you think you will try, Amazon will NOT let you sell against that ASIN. Only big boys with 1000's of feedback will be allowed to list there.

Thanks for the replies. I see some of the other sellers who have listed items, and it says that they have 0 feedback rating and have 'Just Launched'.

I recently found that make-up comes into a restricted category as well on Amazon and also sponge bags as in soap and toiletry bags, which was frustrating for me as well, unless I was prepared to sign up to be a professional stockist of these items I could not list them, ebay yes, Amazon most definately no.

They could be pre-approved. I'm not asking you exactly WHAT you are trying to sell, but what category do the items fall into? That could clarify the matter.
