Nope they cannot. They only see sortcode account number.

They have new measures in place for you to prove that you own the deposit account though and you need to provide them what they ask for.

Yep, they now ask for a copy of the bank statement in addition to the other requirements.

This is news to me, when did this start. Usually you have to verify your bank account in a similar way to PayPal by confirming the micro deposits.

That stopped a while back, some accounts may have that but majority they want bank statement proof sent in.

At the moment, this is a UK thing. But it COULD expand here.

Isn't an uploaded 'bank statement' scan no more secure than the micro-deposits method (for Amazon)?
Unless your bank is gonna confirm/pass on your name/address upon Amazons request, I fail to see how a bank statement can be verified?
