Tax information when Registering for AMAZON?
 

I set up my amazon account then signed up for a seller account and noticed that one of the steps to completing your account is setting up your tax information. What in the world? I set up the account as an individual, I don't want to have to go in and create a business EIN before I get started. And does amazon demand a ssn or ein when tax time comes? :suspicious:

I'm pissed off now! Why the hell are the asking for tax info upon registration? It didn't say that in the guide. Is this because I set up for a pro account (40$) or did I trigger something in the system to specifically target me?

Provided a random ssn number and got through, I probably will change it to an EIN later. But is this the usual process? It won't make it through validation though.

update: Said my tax info is invalid and I have 30 days to reenter it. Also I provided a vanilla visa and they are saying the card is invalid and I believe this is because I registered my real name when i bought it from cvs but and it's different on the account. Also my card billing address is my real address which is linked to a banned account. So I put a different address for the card into amazon, so I think that is why its coming up as invalid. What cards do you use when you set up your amazon?

You picked the wrong account to set up. If you set up for a PRO Account, they want tax info up front. You need to contact customer support and ask them how to register as an individual seller first, they will let you know. Easy mistake to make since Amazon changed their policies, again.

So if you register as an individual seller, they don't ask you for tax info until you hit 20K, correct?

They don't ask you upfront. But they will ask when you close to 50 transaction.

From memory you can select do the tax interview later. Then you should be able to change you selling plan to individual But as Tony say's 50 sales and you will have to do the tax interview in any event. What the big deal anyway, do you not expect to sell 50 units?

You register as an individual but the name on the account will later have to match the name on the ein you will provide later after the 1 month review ?
