Does USPS provide free tracking on first class parcels?

Does USPS retail provide free tracking or delivery conformation on first class parcels? A customer says he sent a return that I never received. He says he sent it "using usps" so he doesnt have a tracking number.

The item is less then 13oz so could be sent with first class....if im not mistaken usps retail gives free tracking to first class parcels?

as of 5-31 all of the USPS packages include a free tracking number.

Yes they do. If sent at retail (from a post office), the tracking number is on the receipt given to the customer, along with the $$ amount they paid.

If I put a stamp on a letter and hand it to the counter at USPS, will they give me a free tracking? Or do I have to pay the parcel first class rate to get a tracking?

so to confirm prior to 5/31 USPS had free tracking on retail first class parcels?

Only packages get a free tracking now, letters don't get a tracking at all, never did.

Not really free, USPS did a price hike but now the tracking is included. In other words if you used to have an option to buy it or not now days you HAVE to :)
