Warehousing Solutions

Do you guys know of any warehousing solutions for start-up companies? What did you use when starting up and having to order 2,000 units up front of a product?

A storage locker? Honestly, it is probably your best alternative. I have more space now, but when I started out, my house was my warehouse. Then, I got a storage locker (it was either that or a divorce) and then I finally got some separate space. The house next door to me was for sale, it needed work, so I bought it and fixed it up. But housing in my area is cheap. This would not work financially if the house next door is $200k...

2000 small pieces or 2000 electric cars?

Storage is cheap. Most areas have climate controlled and video surveillance for cheap money.
You might want to consider FBA and have them store and handle your goods.

Thanks!! Jeff, I wish, I'm in expensive California. Where you have to make $100,000 income to live average in an apartment. I found a warehouse solution where its only $500 minimum a month rent, but the labor costs are $20.95 per half hour, that would kill me right there as a start up. Especially, eBay I need to drop ship myself since they don't have FBA.

As for FBA, I only do FBA since people buy more and drop shipping is so risky, but I need a warehouse to be able to bring the goods in and inspect them, first.

Jeffweico - How did you receive your inventory inbound to the storage locker or did the storage locker accept it on your behalf? Sorry if my questions are "stupid" but I know logistics but not warehousing for small businesses too well. Doing research to help start up a new llc brand I made to pay the bills.

Try cubesmart.com, very cheap and all over the US.

Well, I only had a delivery I needed help with ONCE. I knew I was in trouble when the trucking company asked where on the building my loading dock was.

Most of my inventory is books, so my biggest thing was organizing them so they could be easily found when I had an order. Of course, I DO also sell other things.

When I had the storage locker, it was me and a friend putting the stuff into it. I think it was about $50 per month. It was self-serve storage, so we did everything ourselves.

You mentioned 2,000 pieces... How big is each piece? As someone else mentioned, 2,000 cars take a lot more room than 2,000 decks of playing cards.

Home wood goods and electronics so a large pallet or two per sku. Its something I can't handle myself, otherwise I would get them delivered by DHL to their warehouse and take them in my car or a rental truck to a storage locker.

You ever thought of getting an old beat up truck to take large pallets to places.

My brother in law as a small 2000 Toyota truck beaten to hell but still runs like a champ. 3 times a month I call him up to move large packages that wont fit inside a car with the seats down.

He got it for 400 off facebook, just needed a battery and 3 tires. That truck runs on 4 used different brand tires. He still drives his new car, he uses the truck for work or projects.

Sometimes I laugh at the little truck but it still goes. One day I might do the same.

You'll laugh, but my first few Amazon fba shipments, I packaged and taped and labeled out of the trunk of my car. I had them delivered from overseas in small batches, then I took the packages to the local UPS store to weigh them so I could bill the freight to my amazon account.
