Amazon credit card verification - What's in a name?

Sorry in advance if this has been covered before.

But I had a question about Amazon credit card verification.

Have been talking to someone who gave the following advice, wanted to run it up the flagpole and see what others thought.

The fellow suggested that I could phone into my bank, tell them my credit card was stolen, and when I got a new one, could sign up for Amazon with that credit card as long as the address had been changed ... and that even though MY name was on the card, I could use ANY other name ... a made up name...and it would not matter.

That Amazon's system does not check if the name on the card matches what you put down.

Is this true?

Thots?

Yes, this would work. All Amazon needs to see is the different credit card number. You can also ask your bank to add a secondary address to the card. Tell them you want to order something online, but the merchant does not ship to any other address than what is on file with the bank. Tell them you are not home during the day because you have to work and you want your friend to get the package for you, because they are at home all day. So, you can have them add the stealth address for "shipping purposes".

If the bank asks the name of the merchant, I know that Newegg is very strict about this, but you could make up almost any name, or tell them you don't remember the name off the top of your head, that it is a small merchant that sells something specialized, like stained glass fireplace screens or something.

I have done this with both B of A and Woodforest and have not had any problems. I'm sure most banks will accommodate you.

Let's say I cancel a card that I have that has authenticated an account that is up and working.

If I cancel that card to get another to sign up a second account...doesn't the first one trigger the authentication for the first?

Or, once authenticated, no need to worry anymore...?

Thanks!
