VPN "kill switch"

I've been told that Windows has settings to close immediately if VPN is lost.

There's also a service at VPN Watcher - UGD Software. It's supposed to kick you off instantly if VPN fails. Has anyone has had experience with this?

You get a warning anyway that you VPN has dropped. Just quit amazon if this happens. From my limited knowledge if a page is already open and your VPN drops your new IP is only logged with amazon when you load a new page.

I prefer VPN Check myself, but YES ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS use one of these! Not every VPN warns you of a drop in service. If it totally drops, yes. But sometimes it is only out for a couple of seconds and that is all it takes. These programs CAN be of great benefit. It has saved me on more than one occasion.

You are smart to be thinking this way. Many things can happen to cause a VPN to drop. It could be the VPN provider, something on your PC or even something with your ISP. VPN's are generally reliable, but do you really want to risk an account?

You can even get VPN Check for free. The free version will protect you just fine. No need to spend any money.

JEFF: A question which I don't know the answer. When you log on obliviously your IP is logged with amazon. So does amazon constantly check you IP while you are browsing or just at log in. I cannot see any reason for them constantly checking and the data processing time checking everyone who is on line would be enormous. The reason I ask, if your VPN drops is amazon really going to know. Maybe someone else knows the answer.

I am having trouble trying to install VPN Watcher. It seems flawed. . . will load the application like 50 times and lock up the computer. Have uninstalled and reinstalled, and still not working. I paid for the gold service plan, but they are no help; say "look at tutorials" which don't answer the questions.

Sheesh. . . . is there an easy VPN kill switch out there ? They all look complicated to me.

To my understanding IP is captured every time a page refreshes or you click on something/page change.

Re: VPN "kill switch"

Hey Guys! Easiest and most efficient way to create a kill switch is to just set your windows firewall to not allow any data transfer in the VPN drops. Here is a simple tutorial to follow:

https://bolehvpn.net/blocking-non-vpn-traffic.php

Be sure to test the settings once completed ;-)

Re: VPN "kill switch"

Well, I tried that, and had no luck.
I'm using Windows 8, and the screenshots looking nothing like I had.
I DID manage to hack through and get to "inbound rules", but at that point, I was lost as to what to do.

Re: VPN "kill switch"

BTW, VPN watcher is NOT suggested. I paid for the Gold service plan, but once they had my money, they were not interested in helping. Same problem with them: outdated screenshots on tutorials and poor instructions left me lost. AND I have installed the program multiple times (uninstalling each time) because of some kind of defect in the program. The window loads about 50 times, flickers, and locks up the computer. I guess I lost $20.

I don't know how/why you had any trouble. Just go to your Windows Firewall and click Advanced Settings. There you will find the options to add a new incoming and outgoing rule. Just add your web browser and set it to be disabled. Should take you all of 5min to complete. Let me know specifically what your hangup is and I can walk you through it.

I'm running Windows 8.1 and the screenshots are close enough to navigate and works like a charm.
