Laggy vmware virtual machine
 

It lags so bad that I could barely use it. Anyone find a way around this issue?

I finally stripped Windows 7 OS to the bare bones to maximize performance and it seems to work, but it took over an hour to adjust all the settings that I found in an article. Now I also have to do the same for my other accounts I guess, but this time for Windows XP and then Windows 10 and Windows 8. As each account has seperate OS. Is there a quicker way around this to get the vmware not to lag so much?

Show us your computer specs and I'll tell you why it lags so much...

It might not be a problem of OS you are using, you have probably assigned very low resources to your virtual machine.

Try to increase disk space or virtual memory for the machine.

Your PC specs would be really useful. :)

Maybe the problem is your PC's lack of resources. Although, if in the past it was fine -- it just might be that your HDD is on the brink of death...

@OP, post your full computer specifications, and how much hardware resources you're dedicating to the VM (number of CPUs, RAM, etc).

It sounds like your computer is incapable of running virtual machines

OP- Why in the world are you using a different OS for every VM? Thats not necessary, and the newer, graphic intensive OS's are what is slowing you down.

I'm in MM78's camp. Stripped down version of XP from TPB all the way. The OS's ISO is only like 500mb, and the finished product runs seamlessly with 512mb RAM and 10gb HDD.

There are 3 major things that affect VM performance:
1) RAM. Make sure that if you give VM some RAM, you have that RAM free in your host computer. So if you create a 1 GB VM inside a 1 GB host, it will be snail-fast, as VMware will use swap file to emulate lacking RAM, and that is VERY slow.
2) Intel VT-x technology. Make sure it is enabled in your BIOS, otherwise machine will run like 2-3x slower than it should.
3) HDD. When working with VMs, make sure your cost computer is not doing something like Windows Update, as it consumes a lot of HDD resources, and VM will lag as well.

I have a low-end dual core Celeron notebook with 4 gigs of ram and some 5200 rpm hdd, and it can play youtube HD videos inside VM without lags. So, you need to check your setup carefully.

Besides making sure your computer is fast enough, and allocating sufficient ram and processing power to your virtual machines, like others suggested- I'd also recommend checking out the following link to optimize your vmware settings.
