Setting up stealth Amazon US account from UK
 

Anyone know if I can set up a stealth Amazon US account as a UK sole trader?

How does it work in terms of EIN number - do I need to register if I pass the 20k threshold?

Any advice regarding how to set it up in terms of w8-Ben form and EIN numbers?

As a non-US resident, you would have to read up on getting a TIN...

I've read its possible to just get an EIN -but does anyone from the Uk who sells on the US site know if this is asked for?

I have opened accounts on Az as non resident.
its no biggie.. If you are Non resident.. there is NO tax obligation and you fill out the form stating such.
if you are intending to make a stealth account under a US name and address.. you can enter any working SSN and update it every month.
For some reason Az does not stress about this??

in the w8-ben form do they askfor an EIN number?

Would I need to get an EIN?

If I'm a sole trader in the UK can I add my sole trader details on the US site or do they need a UK company?

You probably have to wait for specialists in this subject to chime in a bit later just to confirm or get different views on what you gave been told here, unfortunately I cannot do either never having sold from here in USA.

In my last tax statement they did not ask me EIN
They should not ask for one because you are not a US based seller

I do not have a company...i just used a business name not based in usa...they have never bothered me other than the once a year tax interview which is easy...for new accounts things might be different though not sure but i think its still easier if you dont use usa details
Why dont u do a dummy test to see what they ask and update here?
I mean just start an account from any computer even a banned one, put all dummy information name micky mouse lol just to see all steps and what they will ask during the registration...take screeshots too to keep a note for reference to use for the time you will make the real stealth account

Do you put your shipping from address in the US or another address?

and what about returns address - do use use a forwarded one in the US?

So once a year do you fill in the w8-ben form - does this ask for an EIN number / what does the form ask?

Of course i put thai shipping address...you cannot lie about this as the shipping time must be correct..you dont want your customers to have unrealistic expectations for delivery time otherwise you will be flooded with complaints...you wont survive long then
For returns i have both thai and usa address but of course i prefer customers to return to my thai address and me not paying anything other than the refund...technically it is not allowed but seems to work in most cases and customers accept to return to thai address and bearing the cost too...if i end up with a pain in the b*tt buyer i just refund end of story

Hm, what is the popular fk name generator site? Does it generate SS numbers too?? I'm confused.

If this is correct, wouldn't this be an easier method to setup stealth accounts in the US, just make up names and pretend they are from abroad? Setting up stealth in the US requires SSN or TIN and setup of a corporation, maybe that can all be avoided?

But you would need a dedicated UK IP I think if you say you're from the UK..

It would be good is anyone who is not from the US who sells on Amazon US knows the answer to my original question...
