Change bank checking acct number to re-use?

Am I able to change a checking account number with a bank? I have a checking account number that was used with one of my banned amazon accounts, and I was wondering if I can change it and re-use it instead of opening up another checking account.

Banks I have dealt with won't "Change" the account number - they can open a new one for you and close the old one. Or just open new one and keep the old one for your own use.

Yes this is true. I have reported check books lost and had to close/open new account. However with Debit Card you can get a new number.

Its a simple matter to close one account and open another. Or just leave that one be and open a couple of savings accounts and use those.
