Its actually done on a wide scale on Amazon.
Sellers find a product, create their own label around it, make a new listing, prevent competitors listing on their amazon page etc.
The most difficult aspect around this is, you have to put a lot of time and effort into getting customer reviews, and sales conversions to ensure your listing is ranked in a position which is worthwhile - because remember, nobody knows your brand at this point, so it all comes down to people putting their faith in other buyers reviews.
The final and most crucial point, make sure the item is worthy of holding your brand name. If it doesn't do what is says on the tin, its your entire brand at stake, including other products you sell with that name.
