Post office charging buyers for postage due
 

I sell about 300 of a particular item that only weighs 1.1 ounce including the envelope

I use a 2 ounce First Class postage. For some reason the Post Office is telling the buyer that postage is due. I get about 5 of these a month

Has anyone else had this issue with the post office incorrectly asking for postage?

It's very frustrating

Do you use thick or large envelope option? If your objects too are too rigid and you are using the large envelope, it can backfire sometimes and they will charge you the counter price for the thick package

I went to the Post Office today.

I took the envelope that said postage due. I was paying $1.20 for First Class envelope 2 ounces with no tracking.

The Postman said it was considered a package and it wouldn't fit through the 1/4 inch slot. He said I needed to select package which is the tracking option for first class and cost $2.60

However, I have been selling thousands of these over the past few years with the the First Class postage 2 ounce label, and I would say I get 1 complaint out of 300 shipped.

I think the post office just can't possibly check all of them and only a small percentage so I think the risk is worth the reward instead of have to pay an additional $1.40 per order. I'm already only breaking even on the item. I only sell them to help my ODR rate

I have no negative feedback because of this. When a customer complains, I just issue a full refund, and I ship them an extra product so they don't complain

yup been there my envelope is to thick even paid for the printed label and she gave me crap about it has to be atleast 3/4 in thick to be a package so when i send out a flat package i even wad a piece of paper in it to satisfy her ..
In your case if it was your local post office complaining then i would STOP trying to send packages with letters . and BTW ......
Avoid placing two Forever Stamps on a mail piece for heavier mail. Additional ounces are much cheaper costing only $0.21 per additional ounce rather than $0.47 for a one ounce letter. If you add two Forever Stamps to a 2 ounce letter, you would be paying for an item that should only cost $0.68

I have to admit i didnt know this for the longest time when dealing with stamps . i was a 2 stamper lol hence the .21 cent stamp

suddenly the post office in your area or generally nationwide impliments rules that are longstanding....also sometimes rules and measures, slot widths change and nobody informs you at the post office....happened to me some time ago when some cost rules changes, I soon found out when I got a handful of complaints that buyers were charged.

Its usually small post office with nothing better to do. Even when I use to drop off packages many years ago at on Office the Post Master was a Postal Nazi. Gave me crap about the zip code being one over on a flat rate. Now I drop everything off at the biggest one in my area. They are too bust to hunt people down for a $1 in postage. Its really dumb.

Stamps.com says if you select First Class with no tracking that it has to be over 1/4 of an inch, which it is, but under 3/4 of an inch. I don't think the Post Office even know their own rules

TBH, that is what I would do. Have you figured out if its your post office or the customers? Because it can be either one.

Sometimes I have packages just slightly more then 15.9oz, and if they are on the west coast shipping can be close to $7, so ill send it first class and drop it off at a further PO because they tend to let things slide.
