Sim card registration

Hi..I'm new hear and have found a lot of information that has been a great help to me. I'm about to buy a SIM card so I can obtain a phone number for registration purposes on eBay and Paypal. As a SIM card has to be registered and verified by the supplier eg: Optus, Telstra etc, will eBay be able to find out my real name through this or do they only get the phone number information. Thanks in advance for your help.:noidea:

Whenever I do an AU account, I use stealth name and address to register the SIM card. Not sure if they can see it or not but better safe than sorry. Tip- try using random numbers if asked for your driving license number.

They cannot find out, Optus / Telstra / Vodafone cannot give out information of their account holders just because eBay may ask.

Proof of age card / random numbers use to work for Vodafone, not sure if it still does.

Vodafone has a new option when doing the registration online which says 'ID verified in store', choose that and bobs your uncle

The short answer, a resounding "NO".

Neither eBay nor PayPal can see the name of the account holder.

EBay and PayPal don't have access to telecommunications databases, so you have nothing to worry about in that regard.

Depending on what type of activity you are doing on eBay, you may wish to cover your tracks by not using a SIM card registered to your name and address. However, if it is only eBay and PayPal that you're worried about... you have nothing to worry about.

Indeed, however I thought I might as well put the correct info out there for everyone's benefit.

Anyone able to register voda sim now? seems the online activation option for ID "checked in-store" has been removed, only options are medicare, drivers license, and passport to which random numbers don't get accepted as it appears they actually verify it against government database?

Any help appreciated on what to do here to activate them... have a whole bunch of voda sims now that I can't register...

I know that feeling, i had Boost sims left over.

Best bet has always been the orange group, they are amazing at providing sim cards and easy registration, just can't remember there website...

So how have you guys been registering the sim cards Voda has taken off that option. Do you just your own ID now?

Bumping this. Can't use Vodafone anymore. What other options are there?

Why can't you use vodafone anymore?

Re: Sim card registration

Because I don't want 100 sims registered in my name and there's no way to bypass their ID check now. So does anybody in Australia know of another service provider which you can activate online without ID/write in random numbers for ID?

Re: Sim card registration

Tried Lycamobile and Amaysim. Neither worked. I don't think any of them do anymore, they seem to have cracked down on it completely.

So if you have 100 Sims registered in your name....the Australian Government will do what to you?

Re: Sim card registration

I know they gather more information if you go over a certain amount and you can certainly attract attention if you have that many... because ya know, that's what drug dealers do. So I'd just rather avoid that scenario altogether if there's an easier solution, okay?
