refusing to upload docs - paypal refusing to close account and begin 180 day hold
 

yep you heard right, i lost of a lot of stealth accounts and as i tried to pass verification on several and failed, im now giving up on others and would just like to start the 180 days without uploading id's etc.

Called paypal and was advised the funds can be held by paypal FOREVER unless i provide the info they are requesting.

Threatened to call financial ombudsman to which the operator said she can no longer speak to me anymore if i take that route as it is now a legal issue.

I have over $3000 in the account.

anyone had a similar experience? is this legal?

Yes they can do and have done to me it’s been over a year on one account they requested docs and I got creative and sent them then the declined them so I gave up waited 180 days for the return of my funds but nothing came I called them they stated that I would be required to correct and legable docs before they can returns so now it’s been over a year no funds returned i lost £9600 but the valuable lesson I learnt is never leave more than £300 in your account withdraw regularly.

Sad thing is when we all signed up to use PayPal Australia, we accepted their T&C.

Some did not “get” PayPal could give us trouble/woe/grief with limitations.

I learned very quickly to use PayPal carefully and in good stealth mode.

can you elaborate 'high quality'?
a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ passport would not pass the verification,unless high quality means an authentic one stolen or borrowed from some one?

I have been selling on internet since 1996-Ebay,AMZN,Ecrater,Bidville,Epier,Gold,Rubylane,Yah oo,Etsy,some I dont even remember.
Do you know Yahoo used to have auction?
so did AMZN?
There was also a Gold Auction found by some Ebay sellers,it did not last.
Ebay used to have an auction site called Great Collectibles or >>,it bought an auction house just to co-ordinate all the efforts of antique shops around the world to sell on it,it did not last either.
I am stilling selling,I have never been asked to show a vendor invoice.
The only time I got into trouble with Ebay is when some one asked me to sell some Pre Columbian artifacts,Ebay asked me to take a picture of myself with my Ebay ID with those artifacts,and copies of my driver license and passport.
Then I learned there are many ⊗⊗⊗⊗ Pre Columbian artifacts out there,there was the last time I accepted any consignment.

No mate, it's not legal. They can't hold your money. The onus is on them to prove your funds were either 1) illegal or 2) ⊗⊗⊗⊗ person. Failing an identity test doesn't mean your identity is ⊗⊗⊗⊗. It means the systems they use could not identity you. They are not the Police. Their identity checking is weak.

I think (I stress think) that Paypal needs to comply with unclaimed monies law(s) in Australia. If money they are refusing to release is covered by these laws there might be another way to claim back money that Paypal refuses to release. I never leave more than $500 AUD in an account at a time.
Unfortunately we are at the mercy of PP's T&Cs
