About AUS Customs and Paypal Payment Proof

Hi guys, first time in the forum here and it seems like people are generally kind and willing to share their experiences so I register and want to ask some questions.

I am just wondering that would AU Customs call up Paypal and verify your payment? Do they actually have to power to do that?
