Item Not as Described - documentation?

After selling on ebay for a little over a year. I got my first Item not as described dispute a few days ago.

I was selling a $100 external hard drive.

At first i was bummed and thought i will automatically lose the case i spoke to paypal and they told me they have asked the buyer for documentation of proof.

i thought the only time they ever ask the buyer for documentation is when the item is suspected to be a counterfeit but in my situation.

I am not selling louis Vuitton bags or nike sneakers So I am confused. what kind of documents are they asking the buyer to provide when it isn't a counterfeit case? like say the item is advertised as color blue and buyer got red. what documents does the buyer have to provide?

is there any hope that i could win this?

This item has a high level of being 'copied'. Can be mis-badged as to its accuracy.

What is the origin of the hard drive?

I think just some pictures which can show buyer's point. But whatever he/she is going to provide eBay, you should prepare some documents like invoice (from where you bought it),... and get ready to submit them to eBay

Original receipts...pictures of box...keep pushing it back - sadly, be ready for a false return if the buyer is asked to send the item back...perhaps...

rsot, for the benefit of the newcomers DO explain what pushing it back means could you......

OP also stated that the BUYER got asked to supply documentation....

if you have proof of where you bought it, a receipt and invoice, maybe even a warranty it can help

This is the first time I have ever heard of the buyer being asked for such. Maybe this is an indication of some internal changes going on at eBay in regards to buyers filing frivolous and false claims. Very interesting.

Hmm true - rare that a buyer is asked for proof.

'Pushing it back' means fight the case with proof - but moot point since you werent asked for proof...buyer was

Re: Item Not as Described - documentation?

Just an update and a rant, this case is showing how incompetent paypal is.
I finally got resolved today after 3 weeks. the case had to go into review 3 times because paypal are so incompetent.
Details...

1- closed in my favor because buyer didn't submit documents and i submitted documents showing it's genuine item.
2 - case re-opened
3 - case closed in buyers favor. wtf
4 - case re-opened. i asked why it was closed in buyers favor because i submitted documents weeks ago showing it's genuine. Paypal admitted they Lost my documents somewhere in virtual land
5 - resubmitted documents, buyer never submitted any documents this entire time
6 - Received 2 emails within the space of an hour. 1st email saying i won the case. 2nd email saying i lost.
7 - called paypal up asking wtf is going on and why i am getting conflicting emails, lost documents etc. Instead of apologizing. i got a rude customer service person saying that i should ignore all the emails i received from paypal and that i indeed won the case. Yep that's right... she said.... Ignore all the emails i got from paypal. lol

I would leave that paypal alone for a while.....

If you can avoid using it on ebay, do so.

This is a recurring pattern with them.
