Default Question about an item sold

Ok so, I sold an item and the buyer is saying that it was damaged during shipping and that 3 of his 5 items are missing and the other 2 are damaged.

I think this dude is trying to get over and get free items from me.

I told him that I would be contacting my post master general and his local post office about the package and that when/if a package is severely damaged then the post office usually informs them of the damage and how it was caused.

I have tracking on my package and he got it today. I asked him to take a picture of the package and to see the damage done to the items.

What other steps can I take to defend myself?

I have it tracked from my door to his via USPS.

Do I have a chance?

What type of item did you sell and for how much? If it's anything electronic and if it sold for a high price you can bet your ass you might get in trouble by those ebay idiots.

But then again maybe the buyer was scared and will back off when you told him about having your postmaster talk with his postmaster.

You may not win in this type of scam - but if you ask for proof (photo's) and he delivers - then you may have a case for compensation from the courier. I would also keep a copy of any messages and if he refuses to give you photographic evidence - you could use this to try to enhance your case with eb and pp.

Thanks for the quick replies. The buyer posted pictures and I think the post office genuinely inspected the package.

Purchased padded mailers and they looked as if they have been wet and then tossed around.

My next question is....Does anyone know what will happen to the items that fell out?? Will they attempt to send it back to me, mail it to the customer, or just mark it as lost?

oh and btw: No, there were no high risk items, just $5 items in the art supply cat. Right now, my main goal is to build feedback and to get a positive reputation, so nothing high risk at all.

Give him what he wants and move on - you cannot win and as it's only a small amount of money it's not worth risking a good account for

You have insurance on the package? Could be claim time.

Hi follow GT's advice and take the loss - is it worth your account?
Fix things with the buyer asap.

Yeah,
I am sending out another shipment tomorrow and will just take the loss at this point.

Thanks for all of your help with this stuff guys.

I know it seemed petty, but I am trying not to get screwed over.

As your volume goes up, you will find increased cases of buyers who want to shaft you. Be aware of that and operate accordingly. It's the risk of selling.
