Auction ending time strategy vs competitor

I've recently had a new competitor enter one of my product categories and is absolutely flooding the market. My question is if they have their auctions ending at say 7:00pm PST would you rather have your auction end maybe 5 minutes before or 5 minutes after?

Any input would be appreciated.

Any thoughts on this? I know it's not a sexy topic but one I'm sure others have encountered and could benefit from some solid advice.

Cheers

IMO it wont make any difference

Takes us EIGHT HOURS to work replies especially given your time zone. :boink:

naffin middle of your night. Bah. Have some manners.

You could try amending your time.

He'll amend his.

You'll amend yours.

Yada yada yada=}

It would be better if you have your auctions end five minute bevor the auctions of your competitor ends.

@JJGOLD, is your competitor underselling you? If he is then adjusting when your listing ends really has no effect on whether you sell your items first or last.

Also does your competitor have a higher or lower DSR?
Do you have better pictures of your product(s)?
Are your listings more creative?

You should focus on "how do I make my listing stand out from my competitor"

@MM78 - Thank you for the actionable advice.

Re-look at the competitor's listings.

See how yours are. If he's a newcomer, his may not be as good.
Be prepared to make changes IF you need.

But also be careful it does not become personal & possibly destructive.

From experience ,changing end times can go overboard and develop into a grudge match.
Keep your perspective

Images sell product!
+ Layout of the ad - whether it is written or a script.
I think a script is better;)

the time won't help you unless it's an item that people mainly bid at the last minute. people are most likely using sniping programs these days. work on your price and advertisement of the product vs your competitor

I am avoid to let my auctions end on weekends or holidays because I might loose those people who are on vacation.
I usually set auction time to let it end weekdays.
In addition, depending on your time zone, you don't want to let it end at midnight.
I know people snip our auctions, but it is better to get last minutes on time because it attract more people who are shopping there even they do not intend to buy anything.
