Auctions vs buy it nows?
 

Alright so my ebay account is growing well along with stock i went from 800 dollars to 26k in market value within 3 months. Only problem i have my return rate is slow now...

I do buy it now and get roughly 7k in gross sales with around 40 percent profit.

I sell used merchandise within the same niche and I was thinking if i got around 1000+ items listed (huge SEO), I will get multiple items with same buyer (save a lot of shipping), impulse buyers, and a faster return rate.

When i first started out I wanted to make maximum profit, because well I invested very little and had very little money and would rather get my initial small investment back plus maximum profit (to be safe), but now i have more money and I rather get the investment back + 20-40% profit returned asap, so i can buy more, rather than holding on to items. And dont really care if i get some losses.

Now, the only problem is will i get screwed big time haha. Each time i did an auction it was pretty much more less the same price as my buy it now, which I found annoying because why wouldnt buyers buy the buy it now price when it was cheaper after the auction ended (maybe its the whole ill do it tomorrow, whereas an auction its like RIGHT NOW, you got to do it RIGHT NOW)

So what you guys think? "Liquidate" my whole account, then buy more stock right after. I was thinking the last 7 days of the month. So make for sure 6k-10k, then whatever doesn't sale near the end of the month auction it.

By "return rate" do you mean ROI (return on investment)?

If you are looking to maximize your profits, then you will have to experiment using Buy It Now vs. Auctions. That becomes more difficult to evaluate if your items are unique. At a minimum, running an experiment should at least give you an idea of what to expect at the category level.

Buy It Now usually means faster sales. In my experience, it is usually best to use Buy It Now for commodity items, while auctions can work better for rarer items. Of course, that also depends on the minimum price you are willing to accept for a rare item - if demand is weak, then you might end up selling the item for less than you wanted.

If this is a stealth account, I would also advise caution, as you are running a lot of money through one account.

If your account is stable enough and has enough history to do this, you have your answer pretty set.

Moving forward, spread sales over more backup stealth accounts to allow for leeway should an account go down

I use both my open auction bid is the lowest I can take and make 25% over cost and over head my bin are a 50% return 85% of my sales are bin so I'm doing quite well on that sales model.

When my accounts are new I run auction but once aged and no holds I like BIN, it gives me nice sales everyday , no worries on nonpayment and with my items I actually get more money than thru auctions

BIN with immediate payment required will allow for blockage of deadbeat buyers to a great extent

Immediate payment required is only for accounts that are premier or merchant account you can't do that with a standard paypal account.

I just started doing BIN and love it, sales are way up, payment is immediate and now have decent cash flow everyday , and I been setting it up where I would start the BIN listing on Monday and would put in my listing that all items will ship out Saturday. So all week I'm just answering questions , and transferring funds and shipping items from newer accounts that I run auction and Saturday morning I ship out about 200 packages. Tomorrow will be the third week I been doing the BIN listing like this and works great

buy it nows are so much easier, can get sales at any time of day, do a variety of both

For me I run Sunday to Sunday because I run so many accounts per week.

Makes it easier to handle and not trips to the PO every day.

I do sell some high dollar better items with a BIN a few times a week but mainly Sunday to Sunday frees me up the week to be buying.

You make your money buying, not selling. Almost anyone can sell, but not everyone knows how to buy.

Time used is important. Manage your auctions around what is most important to you.

I think BIN or best offer is more work but brings in higher prices just on perceived values. Then mixing similar item auctions besides these BIN's works well too.
