What is the penalty for ending an auction earlier?

I am considering ending a listing because not so many bids/watchers and I dont think it would end reasonably well for me to make profit if I let it ride out but I want to know what the penalty would be such as paying additional charges for ending an auction like 6 hrs earlier

Sometimes eBay will not let you end an auction early.

You will have to pay fees (rules came into affect a few months ago)

Re: What is the penalty for ending an auction earlier?

If you end an auction with bids, and keep doing this your account can get restricted

Once a bid is placed you should only end the Auction if there is a serious error. But don't end auctions with bids because your not getting the amount you want, eBay will catch on quick

Now if there are no bids just watchers, it's not as. Bad

But ending too many auctions could draw unwanted attention

It depends how long the auction has to run (at least in the UK that is the rule)

Cant end an auction in the last 12 hours. But all significant bids happen in the last hour...

Thank you James I know when I last had an active selling account here in the UK bids could not be cancelled.

Bids can be cancelled, but even if you cancel them all the auction cannot be ended still if in the last 24 hours (this may differ from category to category though)

Re: What is the penalty for ending an auction earlier?

It must be different for .com or maybe the category im in, but below is what came up when I clicked end Auction with a listing with bids

And one option is to cancel buds and end Auction

When I first started somehow I had the wrong paypal email and I called eBay and they walked me through but I ended 7 Auctions all with bids

I copied and pasted right from eBay below

End My Listing Early

You currently have bids on your listing. Please select one of the following options:

Cancel bids and end listing early
We will automatically cancel all bids and notify the bidders.
To avoid paying a fee for ending your listing early, check to see if you can revise your listing.
The reason for early ending will appear in the listing (you can select a reason on the next page).

In an effort to minimize disappointing experiences for buyers, we discourage you from ending too many listings early. If you've already ended another listing early during this calendar year, we may charge you an End auction-style listing early fee to end this listing. Learn more about fees for ending a listing early.

Sell item to high bidder(s) and end listing early
You may complete the transaction with the high bidder(s) immediately.
The reason for ending your listing early will be displayed on the Closed Item page:

The seller ended this listing early to sell to the high bidder(s) at current bid price.

Note: Your item will be sold to the high bidder(s) when you click Sell Item.

Re: What is the penalty for ending an auction earlier?

There is a lot of disinfo going on here.

YES, you can end an auction early...even if it has bids. When you go to end the auction, it will give you the option to end it early but SELL the item OR end it early and CANCEL ALL BIDS. If you cancel all bids, you will pay the final value fee for the highest bid that was placed on the item. UNLESS it is your first time cancelling an item, then they give you a "freebie" where you don't have to pay the fees. You can also cancel anyones bid you want, even up to the last minute. If they are a 0 feedback, brand new member, etc. It is in your power to cancel their bid even if there is 1 minute remaining on the auction.

There may be a difference between UK and US accounts, with US accounts u can cancel the Auction with bids, and probably the UK you can not according to previous posts

As far as fees I don't know
