Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone knows if paypal discloses bank or card information to 3rd parties?

Subpoena or Court Order.

Not sure of the procedure in down under, but I assume it's a similar process as in the USA.

The money transmitter license prohibits that in the US.

I don't doubt, though, that they could sell or otherwise release either randomized or limited data, and it is perhaps possible they could post some details in a credit report under certain circumstances.

And, of course, if they send it to collections, they will release all the data to the company/s they choose to collect the debt, and those companies may well be able to share the data with other subsequent parties in turn.

They dont. In fact its PayPal's USP, to make online payments more safer.

They have to disclose to the law following a subpoena order or else they can face closure if not operating within the law, but they'll publically disclose who they share information with as required and for what purposes.

In USA that would only happen if the IRS subpoenaed your account details from Paypal, which I assume is something they would do during a thorough tax audit if they suspect a Paypal account is being used to launder money. Like the others have said though, it would be a legal process done through a court order.

Paypal regularly shares account reports with the ATO and they have the power to investigate anything that doesn't look right.. suffice to say they would have a system that flags accounts having over x amount going through Paypal and randomly check some to see if they are reporting that on their tax declarations.

If you're asking, odds are you think you're doing something wrong. Probably best to stop whatever it is.

In paypal usa, its impossible that they disclose that info... but in another countries im not sure. Maybe they have a different policy

As I mentioned above, they can't do that just because they want to , it's a breach of privacy and it's illegal. So don't worry about it.

It's obvious they send some data to the IRS under certain circumstances, for example if you cross the 200/20K reporting threshold.

AND if you think they don't cough up any requested info to the IRS upon demand you're delusional.

And, once again, data released to a third party is no longer subject to PP's rules, but to the contract they have with the 3rd party and the 3rd party's own policy. These rules can be pretty slippery in practice.

Both the ebay and paypal accounts are stealth and the only thing that is in my name is the bank account. Does that make any difference?

Even if i wanted to declare everything how would i go about it ? Can I just declare the income on its own
