Does Au Ebay now do phone verification?

HI everyone,

I have a stealth account thats a year old and want to create another account - does ebay australia now make you do phone verification? Can i use a cell phone? I dont have a real landline anyways so im guessing phone verification is possible?

Yes, Phone verification is required in AU ebay on ALL new accounts (and sometimes they re-verify u months later with an ip change)....and it has to be Land line...mobile wont do...

your best bet is to get a virtual number.

From my experience Ebay does not always ask for phone verification when opening an account nor for when you move on to a selling account. I have opened 3 accounts this week and was only asked for phone or credit card verification when I used a gmail email account to open the ebay account with. For what seems many years now (I have been doing ebay since the 90's) ebays policy has been that if you open an account with an anonymous email account they will ask for verification examples of anonymous email accounts are hotmail, gmail, yahoo. If you have a bigpond, optus or any email account from an ISP that you have to pay for chances are you will not have to verify the account when you open it.

Something very strange happened to me last week.
Used Gmail to apply for a stealth account and didn't get asked to do a phone verification...

With virtual numbers I have allready tried through the various free trials here in australia with virtual offices. When ebay calls (automated call) they ask you to press a number to confirm that you are expecting the call. I tried 4 times and on every occasion operator would not accept call. I contacted them and they all say they are unable to do this. I am testing another style of virtual number this week and will post results.

I have found you can use a mobile to do phone verification. You can put the mobile as a secondary number and the landline number as the primary doesnt even need to work. when you do the verification you can select for the call to be made to the secondary number. i guess they have this for the verification when you arent using your normal computer and not at home

have you tried Skype to purchase a virtual Number? Also if you have a landline Telstra or Optus offers a second phone number using the same landine for $6 a month

@sia, ebay owns skype. It's not recommended for stealth purposes :pop2:
