| EFIL4OREV | 06-27-2010 04:27 AM | Wireless usb internet Can anyone recommend a good prepaid broadband connection with the wireless usb connections? Do all of them give you a new IP each time you reconnect with them? |
| jbluntz | 06-27-2010 05:18 AM | Pre-paid blackberry or an unlocked iphone, the blackberry would be cheaper and you don't need to get the phone service if you don't want just the data service which is about $40 a month, you can register it in your stealth details, have your emails forwarded to your bberry and the ip changes automaticaly each time you log in. |
| EFIL4OREV | 06-27-2010 05:56 AM | haha yeah a blackberry or iphone would be nice but dont really have the cash to fork out on a awesome phone. I am just looking for like a plug in usb stick thing for my laptop. |

| aspkin | 06-27-2010 10:39 AM | Broadband cards are still pretty expensive.. if you find a good deal let me know.
The 4G one I use now is around $70 a month at the moment. |
| lakeman | 06-27-2010 12:06 PM | EFIL4OREV, The Virgin Mobile Broadband card has a static ip, it's unable to be changed.. It would work for one account but not multiple. |

Also I have the Virgin mobile usb stick, like Lakeman said the ip can't be changed. |
| EFIL4OREV | 06-27-2010 08:31 PM | A good Australian deal would be irelevant for you aspkin lol.
Lakeman did you look at the "plan specifics"? It clearly says IP address....Dynamic.
Jbunts could you possible link me to the Black berry? Would it be possible to use my prepaid optus mobile connection in it and also use it for internet? |
| jbluntz | 06-27-2010 08:39 PM | Not all dynamic ip's can be changed right away some might take hours, days or weeks before they can change.
Here's a link for a reburbished one from T-mobile. Unsupported Browser |
| lakeman | 06-27-2010 08:45 PM | EFIL4OREV, Jbuntz is right. I know I had mine for about a week and it did NOT change, so I took it back. It obviously won't work for most people since you can't change the ip.. |
Hey Jbuntz which Blackberry cell phone provider offers prepaid with tether and blackberry service so you can get email? |
| jbluntz | 06-27-2010 10:57 PM | I thought T-mobile did, I'm currently using verizon but was going to switch to pre-paid. I assumed if they have pre-paid blackberries then they would have a pre-paid data plan to go with it. I haven't called around to ask yet. |
Well they don't maybe Tmobile does but I know Boost does but the tethering feature is blocked. |
| jbluntz | 06-27-2010 11:25 PM | I guess I'll have to check in to it some more, I've heard of people tethering prepaid blackberries but didn't get their provider. Tetherberry should work with boost try it and see if it does, there's other providers out there if it doesn't Maxis, Celcom, Digi etc. TetherBerry - Tethering Your BlackBerry Simply! | CrackBerry.com |
There is a way but Boost is on Sprint and you only get a pool of like 10 ips. Your better off getting the prepaid Verizon Mobile broadband works like a charm! I also heard that Virgin Mobile has a blackberry too but again it's on Sprint other then Tmobile & Metro Piece of Sh*t those are the only prepaid blackberry but all of them are known to block tethering! |

| jbluntz | 06-28-2010 03:22 AM | I don't know about Australia just search for a used blackberry on ebay and use tetherberry to get it set up as a modem, of course you wanna check with the seller and your prepaid carrier if that will work, if not there's other ways to get it tethered just search google. |
Yes tetherberry does work but like I said you only get a pool of 10 of the same ips and that's it. So it would be pretty hard to make that work there are others as well pdanet and mobi shark too. |
| tenggo | 06-28-2010 07:52 PM | just grab any usb modem, heaps on ebay, i got an unlocked optus one for $45, i use optus prepaid broadband that you recharge the same as a prepaid mobile... i get a new ip every time i restart it |

| tenggo | 06-30-2010 07:04 AM | same way... just use your mobile as a modem...just go to a service provider (optus, vodafone etc) and get a seperate sim that is a broadband internet one... can use your usual one but will cost more... |
| realka | 06-30-2010 07:08 AM | cool, i think i am going to try normal usb drive first |
| tenggo | 06-30-2010 07:13 AM | just make sure you get an unlocked one... or unlock it once you get it... it is not mandatory but it is good to have the freedom... |

or any suggestions from you...thanks |
| tenggo | 06-30-2010 07:49 AM | forget the plans... go to any providers store, tell them you want a prepaid sim card for broadband and then prepay...much better... one provider no good... you can change, or too many repeated IP , change |
I use a huawei e160 dongle. Its a prepay dongle on the o2 network and it changes I.P EVERY time i unplug and plug in. And i mean EVERYTIME!.
You can get same dongle on many different prepay networks. Mine only cost £20.00 gbp and then £15.00 gbp top up and was ready to go |
i use a three mobile broadband that has dynamic IP addresses and its pricing is pretty reasonable i feel.
Anyway may i ask if we still need to change the NIC adaptor if i use such a mobile broadband usb stick? (sorry if this sounds silly) |
