Whats with this dumb New Rule???

Email Received:-

Dear xxx,

eBay has announced a new policy that will restrict sellers from posting duplicate fixed-price listings.

Effective Oct. 26, only one fixed-price listing will be allowed per item, per seller—even if you sell under multiple IDs.

The new policy does not apply to auction listings.

not sure what ebay's problem is now, they don't like our insertion fees?

or just trying to be like amazon?

That's all I ever use is fixed-price, never had a reason to list more than 1 which is why I like to use it since you can include your quantity with the 1 listing, I guess if you have more than 10 available I could see the reason. Just hope that doesn't apply to the same listing but different color, hopefully color should be enough to make it different.

I got an email from Auctiva saying that ebay will be bringing that rule in as of Oct 26 as well.
It didn't make much sense till I looked at some popular listings and found that some sellers have numerous identical items for different prices and postage. Some just list heaps of the same thing at the same price and postage, which does make it hard to compare prices from various sellers.
Personally, I think it's a good move by ebay, (I can't believe I just typed that) it gives all sellers a chance to compete. And buyers get a clearer idea of of sellers and prices.

I can see both sides of this. They don't want millions of the same item swamping the search by a few sellers hogging the market.

If I am not mistaken ebay did this or something like this over a year ago already , maybe it was on the EBay UK site, not sure.

I have a problem with it, for one reason. I sell many many items that are similar , if not identical in description. They differ only in styling. lets say for the sake of arguement ( sterling silver crystal earrings) . There are only so many letters in the search box, so I need to get all my crucial keywords into the title. Whether they are long or short is not crucial. Sterling silver crystal earrings is more crucial. The buyer, after they type in their keywords into the search are presented with a variety of styles , from my pictures.

So at any one time I may have 100 or so equal sounding listings, but they are not the same item at all.

though it may sound idiotic, I got around this by listing each style at a different price - say 29.99, 30.00, 30.01 etc , but to me that is just dumb, but what I had to do.
