Linking US based bank account to Canadian Paypal
 

Hi, I'm having a hard time trying to link a US based bank account to my Canadian paypal account.

I keep getting error message "you cannot add a bank at this time".I called the rep and he said Canadian account can't link a US based Account because it's Canadian.

Anyone else having this issue?

PS. it's a stealth paypal account.

Hmm I haven't added a US bank account to a Canada pp in ages - ever since 2011-2012, it wouldn't auto add the account but you could add it in via a pp agent with some "cajoling".

I wonder if you should try a different agent...

I've recently added transferwise USA account to a paypal. There is two options ; USA or CA account when adding, and I select the former.

That's what used to happen - or couldn't get pp to accept the bank account

Interesting. I've done this within the past month, and that screenshot is of how it appeared the other day. Would using a transferwise account to test be within reason?

I think it got removed because paypal tried to withdraw funds from transferwise and got rejected.

I do this weekly with transferwise, so probably not.

I have successfully added US-based bank accounts to my Canadian Paypal accounts. I have cross-border accounts with TD and RBC.
When adding bank accounts, do not select any existing banks on the screen, click on "I have another bank" or something like that. Then with RBC, put the bank name as RBC Bank (GA), followed by the routing number and account number. For TD, the bank name should be "America's Most Convenient Bank" then followed by the routing and account numbers.
I can withdraw funds from my paypal balance to my cross border accounts.

Did you mean to say you need to press the link that says "add a US bank instead"? In which case, you do not need to type the bank's name. The routing number will figure that out for you.

I don't believe it's possible to add a US bank in the Canadian "add a bank" form, you need to switch to USA form (both are possible on Canadian paypal). Reason being is CDN banks have 3 fields (account#, transit, institution) while USA banks only have routing and account number.

Thank you. Does this still work for Canadian PayPal accounts? If so will I be able to transfer my PayPal USD balance to the USD RBC cross border account?

When you create your PP account, do you still see the option "I have another bank"?

My current PayPal still gives me the option to add another bank. The routing number identifies the RBC cross border bank. Was able to link and now waiting for the 2 deposits to get it verified. I would assume a new PayPal would still be the same.....guess I'll find out once I go stealth.
