Does anyone here use an internet stick to conduct stealth?

I was thinking of getting a rogers stick

experiences? thoughts?

Does anyone know if the telus rocket stick through bell can change ip?

Sorry, quick follow up to the last question. If the mobile stick ip does not change, is it possible to use a different stick with each user account. Anyone have any experience with that? Thanks

You could use another stick sure. But you would be looking at a new data account for each. Pretty expensive here in Canada as I'm sure you know.

You should just look at a smartphone tethering option.

Im on Rogers and the problem with using the blackberry to tether is the IP. if you look up the IP it doesnt match your region, I think it showed me I was in ontario or something. Ive been using it for awhile and the IP does change but the problem is it only seems to rotate between 3-4 different ones.. Paypal limited me because of this and I needed to provide proof of location(I think thats what they called it) which was quite simple since it was all legit info on the account but just a heads up. could be dicey if the account was stealth thou.

I know some dial ups also show somewhere else in the country. But just cycling 3 or 4 sucks anyway. So Rogers is out

Well, I suggest trying out bell internet. I am not sure about the internet sticks or phone data plans but I have internet through bell. I simply unplug the internet and connect it back, giving me a new ip. Bell use dsl internet making it easy to change ip's. On the other hand, I used to have rogers and the ip was static. I could NEVER get the ip to change. I tried numerous methods but I got no where. I simply trashed the idea of using rogers and went with bell. I LOVED using rogers though, the internet was more stable and the speeds were better. I never had a single internet blackout with rogers, but with bell, I once did not have internet for 24 hours. These days, internet is a MUST! I can't live without internet, I depend on the internet daily. I would love to get an iphone or a blackberry with an internet plan but the prices turn me off. Canadians pay at least $60 - $80 for internet access for there phone...

I would never pay that much even though I know I could make that money back quickly.

Rogers is the way to go, what did you do just try to unplug the modem without anything else? you need to change the MAC address for the ip to change then replug the modem and voila, plus they are static IP's that are tied to the MAC addresses with long leases, so you can return to a previous ip address by putting a specific mac address.

Well, the problem with that is that it takes too long to change between ips. I have 10 accounts and just imagine the hassle of changing the ip if I wanted to list auctions on the same day...


I use bell, simply unplug and put it back in. There you go, and you get a new ip..

There is no hassle, you just take one extra step of changing the mac in your router settings which takes 1minute, and you save the step of double checking your ip address with your used ip list.

The huawei e160 dongle changes i.p every time you turn off then on. I got one on o2 pre pay

I tried changing the mac on the router last time I had rogers and no luck...

Oh, well. I'm now with bell but I loved rogers since it was more faster and the connection was better....

to anyone who has an internet stick in Canada ( sorry but rates in the UK do not apply here, way more expensive here), you have a data limit per month, is the cap enough data to do your business on? or is it too little and you need to go over your cap and need to pay through your teeth for more data.

Considering the stick, it is just a matter of cost that bugs me.

My other option is dial up of course, but dialup is so slow you cannot run a business that way.

The costs here are brutal for sure! Problem is I can not get any confirmation on IPs from any of them. No point if its static. Or even if its a small pool of 10. So I haven't got any yet. I am ok paying $40 a month if it gets new IPs, but no way for one.

If its just for doing your PayPal and eBay biz 500 meg can work or a gig to be safe. But if you plan to use for surfing you will chew it up fast.

If you have a smartphone it may be better to work out tethering with it and see if ip changes. Going to try blackberry as I've been told it gives a new IP. Waiting for a new BB in the mail to try. If you use home wi-fi with BB you apparently get fresh ips that way too. Again, will test when the bold arrives

If I can get fair speed and new IPs with BB I will run with that

I have spoken to few people and those 1 gig data plans are more than enough if you don't do tons of livestreaming...

I, on the other hand, am stuck with static IP cable provider so I have gone back into the hole with dial up - works well so far eBay and other online shindigs shrug.

Have you tried the USB connection? Mine gives me new IPs. At the very least you would get one extra one anyway

There is no USB Connection on this cable box - wall cable to box - LAN wire out to my router. I see no place for USB connection...?

Just LAN out? Bummer. What provider? Maybe they have an updated modem you can swap out for free

Videotron - oh yes ha the moden is well outdated...circa 2004 or so.
