Should have done this a long time ago but I want to discuss this:

As fellow Canadians should know, when you send out a 1 kg+ package to the USA via Canada Post, you are forced to use Expedited shipping which runs between 18-22 dollars on average.

Any of you have suggestions on cheaper ways of shipping 1 kg+ packages? We don't have a first class mail option on those =(

Ha - love you guys - GB aside, these frequently posting UKers have been a pleasure to see as of lately =)

That aside, can't really split the packages since these 1 kg stuff is often sealed together or just of itself.

Even the split weight sux here in Canada - for example if an item is between 500 g and 1 kg, to ship via first class is still going to be about 15 by air, 13 by surface. Ah well.

I have yet to explore DHL, FedEx or UPS options but I am sure they are not better.

Ok I'll keep my thread alive for lack of anything going on in this subforum ha.

1 kg+ package costs to states:

Sadly, you can't send this by ground or regular air and that's why the cost is so high.

Canada Post: expedited 3-5 business days 18-23 depending on area in USA.

Other options: FedEx - minimal cost is about 24ish; UPS same. I did not look at what an account with them will save - maybe someone else in Canada who ships to USA with 1 kg+ packages can notify whether worth it to get an account with FedEx or UPS?

Think Purolator is same kind of high price.

I use Canada expedited mail to USA, and print the label via paypal as they provide a 25% discount. A package costs $13 - $15 for me to ship, since all of them are under 400 grams. I have used Fedex before but it's only good when you have to ship heavy items. Fedex penny and nickle you for every delivery, including a $2.50 residential fee + $5 rural fee. It adds up depending on the delivery, do not just assume by looking at the base rate. UPS is also another option if you are a powerseller, as they are currently providing 50% off...

Canadapost is the only viable, cheapest and more convenient way to currently ship. With the recent protest, it has caused me to think this twice, but could not come up with the better solution. Unions have caused immense amount of problems for Canadapost,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Thanks Burning - yeah the under 500 grams isn't so bad - it's when I hit 1 Kg+ packages and I am FORCED by Canada Post to use expedited shipping that it sucks. Especially when folx from US don't want to pay 20+$ for shipping ugh.

Another option for you is to use a fulfillment center such as Ship Wire. Are you a powerseller...check out UPS....
