Shipping costs... is it really this much?

What is the best/cheapest way to ship items in canada?

I sold a t-shirt recently and it was $16 for standard shipping with canada post (sent in envelope) and a couple of small books was $26 with ups (packaging- envelope), is this the norm or am I missing something? seems ridiculous... I have only been shipping within Canada

Not much you can do - try looking into Canadian courier services other than Canada Post.

Or try getting a commercial account with FedEx, UPS or so going

i use ups and they charge $16 next day delivery in the city itself .for us shipping a 4 pound book costs 19-22 dollars for most us cities with 4 day ups shipping
but for shipping from canada to us ,chitchatexpress is better from what ive heard.

the ups service i use,the store pays for the box they dont charge me extra regardless of the size of the box they use
search ups or courier service on kijiji and youll get a lot of ads for such stores that offer shipping through multiple services such as ups, dhl, purolator

If you live near the border, you could use service to get it over border and drop it into USPS system. I myself live in Vancouver and able to do so. I have found few companies that are able to drop for every 100lbs of any type of packages for only $37.99. And I send 1000s of packages per month, so it works wonders for me. I however have to file declaration each time though but it takes only few minutes.

P.S. Canada Post has been super bad lately; they lose about 10% of items I send or deliver them super delayed (2-4 weeks within Canada)

Canada Post is not known for quality vs. cost but ....sadly...up here we are quite limited in our options

send it by oversize lettermail. just fold it in a way that it doesn't exceed the maximum allowed length/width/thickness. say the shirt weighs 7ounce/200grams , you have to put 2.95$ worth of CA stamps on it, afterwards just drop it off in any mailbox. if your sending to usa, send it via light packet usa( can't exceed 0.8in thickness either )

you must have really bad luck. sold about 500 items since nov 2014 only 1 package was lost. what option are you sending it by to have it take 2-4 weeks? not even basic lettermail takes that long

Basic letter mail 0.85, 1.80, 3.10. I have sent about 3000-4000 last year and it was a bit better but since this year out of 500, at least 30 were lost. I switched to USPS to ship to Canada while also being in Canada but you get the tracking and price is not so different :noidea:

yeah i wish we had service like chitchatexpress here in montreal, small items is fine with canada post with lettermail, but once you need to send a parcel the prices become out of hand, especially when sending to far west. Had to send an item by expedited parcel because it was to thick for lettermail.. $14 for 0.2 kg item.. it's a joke

I am pretty sure those exist as I myself found 3 companies in Vancouver, 1 of them was just a regular woman who has been doing it for 20 years or more.

Nothing against buyers in general but sometimes, it's not even YOUR fault the packages are lost....there are buyers that couldn't provide their correct address if their lives depended on it.
