Moving to Canada from the UK - Is it possible?
 

Can you guys help me out? I will be moving to Canada in April. I have a few questions if you guys could help me here. I will probably have more later on but just a few questions to get the right research done.

First question: Would I be able to make a legitimate account again because I will be getting a SSN and a new address?

Second: What is the difference with stealthing in Canada opposed to the UK? (If anyone has experienced both)

What is the paypal limit before I need to disclose the SSN and payment limit information?

Mostly the important question: Is it possible to start making the account from the UK. Because it will be 4 months till I arrive there and really want to get started as soon as I arrive there and I really am eager to get started if it is possible.

And any other information that you guys think I need to be aware of would be heavily

What does a USA Social Security number have to do with the UK or Canada?

Why would any country other than the USA ask for a SS number?

Good luck with getting an SSN for Canada.

Going to be an Easter miracle if you do.

Canada does not have SSN for its citizens.

I was sure they stated I would get something similar to the SIN that would be used for tax purposes. I should pay a lot more attention to their presentations but it was just slideshows with bad projector unfortunately Haha.


So there isn't a document request for CAN Paypal or a limit before disclosing any personal information? What do I need to look out for? Seems like a dream come true if that is the case Haha.

Sorry, I thought a similar system to SSN was enforced in Canada.

Canada is most likely the easiest country as far as docs, tax info etc...

@SeriouslyCurious, you need to read up more on Canada before doing anything on eb and PP - lot of threads here in the Canada subforums.

There are limits and there are document requests. SIN is not a mandatory document like the SSN in the States - the abbreviation is similar but one key difference is that SIN is voluntary, PP cannot demand it as a proof of ID...yet

Canadian government ID such as the SIN does not go near paypal/ebay yet.
You will need to check cross border trading, if selling on an international basis. You will have to pay attention to your province's tax laws as well.

Let us know if you have more questions before you commit to making new accounts.

you can just call eBay and tell them you just moved, as long as u can proof you own the account (stealth or real), eBay will first ask u to update ur Canadian address, then they will change ur ID from UK based to Canada based, then your old UK IDs will be as good as Canadian but with all history and feedbacks, use it right away. however PP can't, u have to register a new Canadian PP to receive the money.

Thanks for all the input. I'll rather keep my UK stealth accounts here as I will be coming back and forth for some time. I want to start fresh.

Need some more help, I've been thinking about this long and hard and want to get my feet off the ground when I get to Canada straight away.

Do you think it would be possible even without a bank account attached if I created a Canadian stealth account and tried to sell one thing (Something small) and get the account to start aging process already?

If that was possible for me from the UK to do that, I would start probably three accounts and then when I land in Toronto. Open a bank account and start attaching the bank accounts to the Paypals when I land there?

The only thing I can think of is that it asks you for the bank account when listing a item. What do you guys think? Or is there another way around this? I just want to get the accounts to start aging now so when I land there. Everything will be ready to go.

What you might consider doing is opening a Canaadian bank before you travel.

You would need Canadian IP to just open the PP.ca account so best approach is to wait until you land in Toronto, get bank accounts going and verify the PP as you open it
