card to verify merchant account?

what is the best type of credit card to use to verify my merchant account on ebay?

I'm done with PayPal's nonsense.

I would use a real cc - just have the cc address info changed to match the info on your eb account. The name is irrelevant...you can always change the address with the cc company back after verification is done.

Would a prepaid gift card work?

I know of a gift card that will let you register the full address so that should work right? its just a gift card so no identity verification required and you can register to whatever address you like.

I just want to fully avoid any use of a cc that has my name on it that may be linked to other accounts. I know they probably dont see the name like you say but I would rather play it safe!

I've always used my business debit card to verify my Auth.net account on eBay. I've had to unlink and relink it several times now and I've used the same card each time - which has the same name as my old suspended personal account but was never used on that account.

A gift card would also work just fine.

They aren't trying to verify your identity in any way with this test charge. They just want to make sure your eBay account is set up to properly communicate with your merchant account.

To answer your question - there is no "best type" of card to use for this. This is one scenario where you can use any card you want, as long as it's accepted by your payment gateway.

EDIT - Sorry about the delayed response to your thread. Nobody here has experience with merchant accounts on eBay. I try to chime in when I see merchant account threads since I use one. Didn't notice your thread last weekend. :/

so the bus card you used, did it have your real address on it?

they just run a transaction it doesnt really see the address or does it?

Im pretty sure this prepaid gift card would work.

I think other sellers are scared the merchant account will hurt sales, but I have seen others doing it who seem to be just fine. plus no holds. You just have to know which items will sell the best.

on certain items they consider high risk such as electronics, paypal tends to hold $ more regularly , even after the first 3 months of sales.

My business card has my real address, but my real address isn't banned because I've moved since my restriction. Regardless though AVS will only check the zip code and state when you do the test charge. So you can use your real debit card with a different street address than your own, and it will pass no problems.

Correct. Like I said the other day they aren't trying to verify you in any way. They're just trying to make sure your Auth.net account is setup to properly communicate with your eBay account. They don't even settle the test charge, it just shows us as a pending authorization in your merchant account for weeks (unless you void it yourself).

Yes your prepaid card will work fine.

Using a merchant account has been the worst thing to ever happen to my best eBay account. We literally went from 120+ daily sales with Paypal to maybe 10 daily sales with a merchant account. Eventually I plan to integrate a new Paypal account but I've been focusing on other accounts lately. The one upside is I have almost total control over card payments on that account - but it's not even close to being worth the loss of sales vs. Paypal.

Yeah, I know. I sell a lot of electronics. Still though using a merchant account sucks hardcore. It's not compatible with eBay on mobile platforms (app or browser), it doesn't always update sales records when customers DO pay, the majority of customers refuse to give their CC # directly to a seller (even if they're not really giving it to me, but to Auth.net which most have never heard of)

Re: card to verify merchant account?

I've seen some sellers who seem to be doing fairly well with merchant accounts. I guess it all depends on what you're selling.
