I attempted to open an account with a Vanilla Visa today and it did not work. I have opened many eBay accounts with out an issue including Paypal as recently as 2 weeks ago. Today eBay rejected the card.

Has any one opened an eBay account with Vanilla Visa in the last few days?

hi- yes, yesterday.. as a mATTER OF FACT- i paid $95 in ebay fees with one today.. Someone else said nce--it has to do where you buy it with the zip maybe??

--Bought a $100 + a $50 today... tried 3 times, will not work on ebay..nor paypal...

UPDATE: a $25 Card DOES work on ebay to register new accts, so My guess is this is a Paypal thing...

Oh oh, so paypal is now blocking the use of Vanilla cards?

Yes, it MUST be,, as when you go to pay your seller acct- it goes to the pay one time only, via credit card-plugged it in, says declined,
--checked balance, was ok, at $100.
then, 2nd time, tried via paypal, other method,, still same thing,, (the screen where your pp login is on the rt and you fill in the blanks on the left)--NO GO,
--i THOUGHT, OK, WILL TRY THE $50 CARD.. both ways--no go..
**Created seller acct- (was waiting for the decline, went right through)--so its definite Paypal has Banned Vanilla Visa, as a matter of fact- i think i remember someone casually mentioning this in a post sunday??

Since when has vanilla visa cards ever worked on paypal?

When I searched the threads, there were a few posts where this did appear to be working. It did not appear to be continually successful but mention was made
by a couple of users that they had success.
Or, that is how I read the posts.

When I just searched the posts for Vanilla Visa--seems it did work for folks,, so as of TODAY--no more for Paypal.. East Coast , anyhow.,.
BUT< the $25 cards do work for ebay open seller acct..
**NOTE: i did NOT try a $25 card to pay ebay fees, and i did NOT try a $50 or $100 to open an acct... (if the amts matter at all?)

Vanilla Mastercard works great here on both eBay and Paypal. Is the Vanilla MC available in the states? I always had better luck with MC on eBay and Paypal...

Yup, doesnt work, cant register it online, at least last time i tried it which was about last summer.

American Express giftcards have never worked on paypal as far as I know.

I had a $25 vanilla visa that worked for ebay and paypal before. However, I just found out that american express gift cards don't work. Somewhere on this site there is a list of sites that sell/provide gift cards. Can someone copy and link me to it?

I tried Vanilla Visa today on eBay and it was declined. It used to work for me like a charm....damn!

Hi,Ebaykilla- ( nice name) ;)....Welcome back! Yes, I think Paypal has taken over Ebays Verification System... All access still works + several others..I also found MasterCards this weekend...(had to drive 2 hrs,but I bought all 16 they had)..Try local shop malls..and Simon still works! Good Luck ;)

its not Ebay blocking the cards, its the other way around. The cards is blocking use with Ebay and Paypal out

I wonder why they would do that. It only hurts their business if anything.

Yes Vanilla Visa gift cards stopped working for me for opening eBay accounts around 12/31/07. I tried 5 times with various dollar amounts at different IP addresses on different days with different accounts and they still didn't work. I gave a few used Vanilla Visa cards to a friend who informed me that they could not buy items online with them.

I used Vanilla cards to open paypal accounts in Nov 2007... have not tried to open a paypal account with a Vanilla Visa since then.

I started using amex gifts cards since to open eBay accounts and no problems since

When they flagged those accounts where you used the Vanilla Visa cards, what message did Paypal give you?

Not sure what you are doing. I just tried one and it worked fine for me

i used vanila gift card on ebay in Jan, is didn't work though..

i don't recall the message. I know it worked in Nov but not Jan . I know ebayhateluv mentioned sometimes they work in some zipcodes and not others. I can neither prove or deny this info though.

i tried the Vanilla Master card and it worked...so Chris the Visa worked for you on eGay?

HI- Heres where "I think" the confusion is coming in...

a.) Ebay is now verifying even some new buyers via credit card
b.) Vanilla never worked for me after January for Paypal
c.) it DID work for ebay
d.) Now, after 2/5- it does NOT work for ebay either (for me), tried at various libraries
e.) I believe that Paypal is now doing the online verification for Ebay, as well

So- theres really 1 program verifying the Card info/ and for some reason, they do not like the Vanilla "VISA" at this point (for me anyhow)... :)

I've been reading up, and it really looks like Vanilla are no good anymore on eBay when it comes to paying seller fees.

I just bought two for 100$ each (before I found this out). Does anyone know of another way that I can ultimately use these?

What other virtual cards are available besides entropay? I've been trying to create an account, but no luck. I keep getting an error messege.

Your location real or imagined? There has been mentioned that certain zip codes of accounts cause card to be declined. Maybe that's the reason?

Use the vanilla visa's to buy a simon virtual gift card. You instantly have a credit card number! I think it's a $20 minimum + $2 fee. Since it's virtual you can register it to ANY address...real or imagined!

i did the same exact thing as the original poster.
i just tried to turn my vanilla visa into a simon virtual card
and they wanted billing info for the visa.

is there any way around that or am i S O L?

You won't be able to buy the Simon Gift Account with the Vanilla Visa card. the Vanilla Visa Card cannot be registered with an address, which means that it won't pass the AVS check. Your best bet is to go into a Simon-owned mall and buy the Simon Visa Gift Card in person or just spend the $100 offline.

Are you trying to register a seller account with the Vanilla card or pay your seller fees with it? Registration requires the AVS, but eBay will take your money however it comes.

Within the last 2-weeks, I have used Visa/Vanilla & Amex Gift Card...both just $25.00 and was able to use for seller's fees on 2 new Ebay accounts. One I had to use to register with and 2nd account, (for whatever reason) they didn't ask cc to register.

Dont buy the 100.00 Vanilla visa they dont work. Buy the 25.00 for some reason they work great.It has something to do with the company that makes them.

Having trouble w/ Vanilla Visa Gift Card....
 

I purchase a vanilla visa gift card at a nearby CVS Pharmacy store, however it doesn't have any address/name info. Just bought it right off the counter. I asked the cashier how would i enter the address info/name, she just looked me funny not knowing what the hell im talking about.

When i tried to add the card on my paypal account, it said it didn't recognize the verification CVC number (the 3 digit number at the back).
